I have a myth box (had it for over half a year) and don't find it buggy or hard to setup at all! I'm impressed with the quality of the software. It's only nearing a 0.13 release and it's already quite mature.

The important thing for me is that the WAF is high (wife acceptance factor). We're almost never home so to be able to watch whatever we want whenever is a real plus. And she really loves the image gallery feature.

    IMHO MythTV rules.

I've been using a Myth box for 7 months now. It's great. It is a TiVo plus more. I bought a nice little Shuttle XPC case, Athlon 1800+, and a 80 Gig hard drive. I now have a real home theater media center box with PVR, movie library, audio library, image gallery, and weather services.

I cannot recommend MythTV any more highly. It really is the way to go, especially for those who love to hack around with Linux.

Yeah, this is sick. Just when HDTV was starting to possibly catch on, yet another corporate wrong move to screw it up.

I bought a HDTV back in January. I just get my signals OTA (over the air) and the quality is great.

But I'm sick of all the positioning and red-tape that's going on with the FCC and broadcasters. Just do it, already! HDTV is better than old-and-busted NTSC, period. And it's not expensive to rollout as the networks complain; PBS was the first to switch and they still have the most and best HDTV programming available!

These networks need to get out of their own way.

P.S. - Monday Night Football is in HDTV this season. Awww yeah.

Watch live TV. Pause it, rewind, etc. Record shows that you want to watch through the program guide. It does everything TiVo does and more (music, photos, videos, games). It even has a web interface so while at work I can schedule shows I want to record.

The coolest technology was a compressed-air powered bullet for training. Police and military can use their service weapons to basically play paintball. It's nice because the feel of the weapon is exactly what it would be in real-life situations instead of them having to use a fake training weapon with different characteristics.

  23. why i have a gamecube on Game Originality: Any Left? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I own a gamecube because I enjoy creative, challenging games. I see most PS2 and XBox games using technical merits to sell (more polygons! looks better!) rather than gameplay.

On the gamecube, you get a game like Pikmin. That is a really cool game, and certainly well done. Metroid Prime is a great example of something that really hasn't been done before (first-person adventure, not FPS). I think Nintendo has always been about quality over quantity.

To me, having to get the latest fighting game is just wasting money (more complex death moves!). Or getting the new NFL 2003 or whatever just because it has the new stats. I guess that's entertainment for some. But it's not what I look for. Even though I'm supposedly in the target PS2 and XBox demographic, I just don't find those games interesting.

Even if you do not watch/get HD feeds, I highly recommend the new widescreen HDTVs for DVD watching. Even without my HD receiver, I'd still have purchased the TV just for the DVD experience. Now, of course, I'm an anamorphic snob ;-).
