    Guy in the cube next to me got zapped when he went to Drudge to verify Internet connectivity. Sure, probably a rouge ad server but we haven't been back since. Drudge denied anyone reported it to him (we did) and also claimed it was a political lie to discredit his site (it wasn't).

    NZL a is common abbreviation for New Zealand... such as used on the America's cup Boat and other major sporting events. I myself am from Wellington, so not one of these crazy Americans you speak of...

    Agreed. A quick Google of New Zealand +NZL turns up over 5 million hits. It appears just about every global competition uses NZL. Sorry that we say "turn right onto Wrights Road" instead of "turn towards Callum's house where the Bulrush used to be and mind the anklebiters."

    Pity that the nuclear problems seemed to overshadow all the vastly more important and tragic aspects of the quake and tsunami.

    In what way and by whom? Sorry to be so blunt, but I see comments like this and they are meaningless. I guess I'm too old to be drawn into an argument with a vague statement. I much prefer a discussion where it starts with an interesting position instead of me trying to figure out what someone meant.

    Attacking home Linux boxes just isn't cost-effective. There aren't enough of them. Sometimes security through obscurity actually works.

    They should have read the drug's information sheet as generally provided by the pharmacist.

    Your use of the word "generally" means that it isn't always given out. What should those patients do?

    8% is much different than less than 2% and for something like this it would be enough to turn me away. Much different than the typical "headache, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision".

    Nowhere did the warning say the condition might be permanent.

    Agreed, but you're making the assumption that his wheels are moving the whole time. It doesn't take much time driving at 10 MPH to chew up that equation.

    On a side note, when I consulted it was an office joke that I flew in on Monday, left on Friday, and I spent a fraction of the time commuting than the local folks.

    It is difficult and slower to work with people remotely than if they're an office over.

    Why?

    Have a question, some cool information to share, just say it to the person next to you.

    That's how you build silos and tribal knowledge. Neither is good.

    But an empty cube doesn't mean they've realized any cost savings. They have to get to the point where they can vacate a floor or a building. I'm curious what extra expenses you incur by by not working in an office?

    At our shop Linux ate UNIX and Solaris and a few others. Not much impact on Microsoft.

    Sometimes you can install software to a different drive, but the vendor puts stuff in your Registry which goes with the rebuild and you can spend lots of fun time installing software all over again.

    Or you could backup the parts that are important to you.

    You'll need to nack and see how many iPad-specific apps were ready when the iPad 1 launched, a fair few, I seem to recall, including Apple's iWork stuff.

    Over 2000 the day before launch and over 3100 the day after launch.

    The cost is a pittance compared to what the tsunami has already wreaked. Let us also not forget that this "nuclear disaster" was caused by the earthquake/tsunami. It does not deserve half the attention that it is getting.

    Well, the tsunami came and went and the coverage is now finding bodies (or not) / cleaning up / rebuilding. The nuclear crisis is not only in progress, it is escalating and currently forcing people out of their homes within 30km and causing concern and reaction to a much wider region. Which of those two do you think the media is going to focus on? If one compares Fukushima to a localized tsunami event, it's in progress and we aren't sure if the biggest wave has hit yet. Also, since you used bunny ears I don't want to see your definition of a nuclear disaster.
