I think part of the point parent was making is that if you pirate the music, the RIAA has that as an "excuse" for why profits are down. If people "did without" then it might force the RIAA to realize their business model is old and crusty.
That said, I agree that the contracts are shady. However, I've known about "hollywood accounting" for years, is it really safe to assume that these artists are really THAT stupid that they don't know there is shadyness, and find out what it is, before they sign?

Yeh mostly. Funny thing is that I could do complicated problems all day long, and if I got anything wrong, it was a simple addition or subtraction error. I didn't like showing work, but definitely found value in it when I was taking Calculus.

I did 4 years of high school math (from Geometry - Calculus) without doing any homework. I had a knack for understanding the material and made straight A's. Fortunately, my teachers and I reached an understanding that allowed me to not do the homework.
I absolutely HATED the repetition of doing the same problem 20 times with different numbers.
My storm worked fine... Until I dropped it in the parking lot and it skidded across a puddle of water.... A little cleaning shouldn't have hurt it right???
But seriously, I was generally happy with my storm, but it pales in comparison to my android phone.
In some states that's called "owner assisted theft" and not looked at as seriously as someone stealing your car without your keys in it. Insurance companies won't even accept a claim on the car for "owner assisted theft".
Or it could be that pubwvj already had a big enough house (my best friend has a 2 bedroom condo, so 1 kid would not increase his housing budget), and possibly ate out a lot (again, best friend does this). After having kids, shift eating out to buying groceries and cooking at home, thus not increasing the food budget either. I've done similar with food budget in that I'd go out to nice restaurants 2 - 3 times a week and eat out at lunch nearly daily before I had kids. That adds up. Spending that money on groceries allows for more food for the same cost. Easy to do.
Not getting a good nights sleep is typically only in the first few months, or year. I have no problem with getting a good nights sleep because of my 9 and 12 year olds. Even when my wife has another child, I don't think I'll be missing much sleep due to her refusal to allow me to get up in the middle of the night to take care of the baby. Even if she does want me to get up, I did that for 2 kids before. It was a pleasure then, and will be a pleasure in the future.
As far as free time, I have a lot of it. I just choose to spend most of it with my kids instead of playing video games. It's more fun to take the kids to the zoo, go bowling, or even just hang out and play Uno than playing a video game by myself.
Easy, they slow down enough to get over when someone is going faster. Then when the faster people are past, they speed up to where they are comfortable again and begin passing. But my experience was that most people were going a fairly constant speed, so there was usually not a lot of passing, except for a few that were running exceptionally fast.
I've been driving for 12 years, driven the equivalent of cross country on multiple occasions, driven in the country, driven in the city, some very large cities, and even in Mexico.
Fortunately, I learned the fundamentals of driving in Germany, where people know how to drive. The Autobahn (at the time) had no speed limit. There were three basic rules:
1) Minimum 60kmph
2) No tailgating
3) No driving in left lane, only passing.
There were fewer accidents on the Autobahn than there were in the cities. There were fewer accidents on the Autobahn than there are on the US highways. There are also only 2 major differences between roads on the Autobahn and the US highways:
1) The roads were built better to handle the speed.
2) Nobody drives in the left lane.
As such, I encourage my wife, and am teaching my kids, to drive in the right lane ALWAYS. Left lane is for passing or turning left. I don't get in the left lane until I'm less than a mile from my turn or I'm passing. This is being a safe and considerate driver. I also make sure nobody is flying up behind me before I go over, even if I'm needing to pass. Drive defensively and let the cops sort out the rest.
Even if it's being used as a "battery", the aluminum is already being made. Currently it's not being used for much of anything. most people don't even recycle their aluminum soda cans.
It seems to me that this technology, if it becomes widely available, will allow people to use their aluminum garbage for powering their vehicles.
I tend to buy blu ray combo packs for 20 - 25 usually. Then I give the DVD or download to my mother-in-law, who is paying half the bill anyway. So I can build my blu ray collection for 10 - 15 instead of 20 - 30 for a brand new blu ray disc. My mother-in-law is also getting the movies at a discounted prices.
The point is that it'll take more than just the prices coming down... they'll have to stop offering these combos. That will stop some people buying until the prices do come down significantly.
I would recommend the "younger tech savvy crowd" that has blu rays and hdtv find someone with only a dvd player and offer a similar deal, half price of the blu ray for the dvd or download copy.
I agree with you entirely, and have taught my kids that their privacy is their privacy, and the school has no right going through their stuff. I've even told my daughter that if they send her to the office, that's ok, she won't be in trouble for refusing to let them search hear stuff, and I'll be notified and will come up there.
I think a lot of people in the US need to reread the US Bill of Rights, Constitution, and all of the amendments and really study them. This really needs to be done in the government as well. How about a mandatory study of the constitution before congressional term begins after being elected? And on the electee's time and dollar, not the tax payer's.
The point is, according to TFS, the cops DON'T have a warrant. At this point, you could tell them to fuck off... Of course, many people would say that this leads the cops to have "probable cause" because if the person doesn't have anything to hide, why wouldn't they let the cops look?
I have found an error in the bible. The error specifically has to due with timelines. The accepted answer "These people weren't historians so messed up the date."
I am also a child of the scientific movement and enjoy doing scientific studies and experiments. I'll give you another glaring inconsistency:
One of the accepted teachings is the end of the world. In fact, Revelations is dedicated to it. Yet Genesis 8 says:
8:21 And the LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, "I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man's heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.
8:22 "While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, And cold and heat, And summer and winter, And day and night Shall not cease."
Infallible God, Honest God, yet 2 Peter 3 says:
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
So it's easier for someone to find inconsistencies if they look.

I am a bible following christian. I however believe that the bible teaches moral lessons and those are more important than the actual factual information. I also believe in something like a mixture of creationism and evolution. I believe that there is an intelligent design to our world, but also believe that evolution has caused many things to adapt. The biggest question that I haven't heard evolution answer is "How did we go from a single cell organism to speaking and thinking homosapiens?"
And they could easily finance OLPC to the rest of the world by selling it to the general public. Instead of 200, sell it for 300 or 400... This way the "wealthy developed world" will pay for them to be made and GIVEN to poorer countries.

It says the same thing in TFA...
Even if the tablet does NOT have buttons, I'm pretty sure the controller will... Would be nice if could sync my PS3 controllers to it...

My FF 4 at home automatically updated to 5, without even asking me.

Nah, you just put a blocker up after the first couple go off. The cars will turn around then.

Didn't US Gov say that jailbreaking (unlocking) phones were legal? That since we have purchased the device, it's ours to do with what we want?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking
Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking is legal in the United States, although Apple has announced that the practice "can violate the warranty.

Pretty sure his point was that as a sysadmin, he only cares about the linux machines. He lets the "IT staff that does windows" handle windows A/V
The 24-hour deadline has passed, yet there has been no message from Earth! It is most curious. Perhaps I was too lenient.
