If you want to speed up C++ compiletimes you should take a look at using precompiled headers. Be careful when you use this technique together with ccache though since they doesn't seem to work well together.

I would just want to point out that the EGA card in my old Amstrad 1640 (80086) can do 640x350x16c (or was it 640x360? Something like that anyway)
I have been looking for a good Norton Commander clone for linux since I started using linux.
I noticed that gentoo wasn't really an NC clone, but instead a clone of some amiga file manager, but there seem to be some inspiration from NC anyway. But I can understand if my wishes for a NC clone doesn't fit in with the paradigm for gentoo...
Anyway, gentoo seam nicer than most filemanagers I have looked at.
It seems like everyone is trying to maka NC clones at the same time, but almost no one seem to know what they are doing, or they are doing something that I'm not interested in.
What I would like to see is a NC clone that
* Works well under X.
* Has good support for keyboard navigation.
* Has a edit field at the bottom where you can access the shell.
* And I *really* want tabcompletion to work! If that means that the tab key can't be used to switch panel, then so be it.
* Then some nice ftp features, and ability to open zip files, bookmarks to different locations etc would be nice, but I can live without that.
The main thing is that the original NC just added great stuff to the DOS system. Most modern linux versions remove functionality from the system! Like tabcompletion, commandline support, keyboard navigation...
Windows Commander does a good job on windows...
The best one I have found on linux is old MC. It works allright under xterm, but the main problem has always been that tab completion is mapped to alt-tab instead of tab.
Actually I got so tired of it, that I just did a dirty (very ugly, just added two if statements somwhere...) hack that moved alt-tab to tab, and tab to the key just above Tab ("1/2" - the one key on my keyboard that I never have used for anything good). And now the tab completion works just like I want it to!
There's a very simple solution... why trust someone when you don't have to?
This is what I do:
1. Create a separate bank account with a separate creditcard to it, and conect it to paypal.
2. Don't ever have more money on that account than you can afford to lose. If you are planning to buy anything you send money to that account and then buy it directly. Don't leave money hanging around on it.
Or if you are a business you withdraw all incomming money to another account.
That's too bad... I have always felt that the AI was the weak point of all Civ-like games. If only the AI was better I would be satisfied with the features and graphics of the original game.
Hmm... yes... sometimes war is what is required, like WWII. Sometimes one must make a stand and fight.
But one must also take into account what can be acieved with war. War with the only goal of venegance is pointless, it will certainly not stop more terrorist attacks in the future.
If there was a clear target, open war *might* have been a needed action.
Before it is known who carried out these attacks it's far to early to even consider war. It would lead to nothing more than enormously more destruction, on both sides.

xdu is a nice little gem i found recently.

Yes of course. You will be presented with a typical MS dialog saying:

Do you wish to continue?
OK

So when do we get taichi programming? Or maybe lagom programming? :-)
Hmm... That doesn't work for me. Did you have to do anything special to make it work?
/Ripat
That's a feature I really would like see working!
Ehh... Insects tend to go towards lights when it's dark... bad idea... :-) /Ripat
Well... Here's the long answer... :-)

Ahh... I like your filemanager. Looking good...
:-)
Thanks for posting that link.
To bad it's not all that I'm looking for in a filemanager, so my hunt for a perfect unix NC-clone goes on...
Well, I use the mailpart in mozilla, and I certainly want to keep it.
It's very nice to be able to use the same mail client with the same settings on different platforms.

Doesn't "drag'n drop" work with several files?

Hmm... ok...
To bad for all of you who have had problem with 8.1.
On my computer it works a lot better than 8.0, and feels like a more polished product.
Mandrake 8.1 really works great for me. It has gotten much better since the last few versions.
KDE 2.2.1 and mozilla 0.94 is included, which is very nice, and I can really recommend this version!
I would like to share some links with you all. If you feel it's not something for you, then please just ignore it.
It's two letters from the celestine journal which deals with the recent terror attacks, and how to react to them.

Thats the most stupid and dangerous idea I've heard today.
Both extremes are equaly wrong, the only solution is to find the middle way.
Your way won't work, and neither will it do to just sit around, and wait for another attack.
Well spoken!
As some one else here said: "the world you live in is full of hate dont add to it"
>The world you live in is full of hate dont add to it
It's a tragedy, but thats exactly the thing to remember! Well spoken!
Well, temporary safety restrictions are not the problem.
The problem comes when people start to think about ways to make sure that this will not happen again. It would be very easy to go to far.
I've read the first two, and I came to the same conclusion...
Hmm... there's not many toll roads in Sweden. Actually I don't think I ever seen one.
Perhaps... but what do yo do when the majority prefers comfort to freedom?
The majority will take away the freedom for the others as well...
