I assure you, though, as a personal matter, whatever faith I may or may not have in evolution or the scientific method in general has an infinitessimal impact as I make my rounds through the day. I do not have a "personal relationship with Evolution" as you do with Jesus. And I don't mean that as a nasty comment.
As for my self, I don't take that comment as nasty. It's actually pretty funny and we'll.. refreshingly honest.
What I do mean to say is there is a big difference between your faith in Jesus and my belief (for lack of a better term) in science. At least, I think there is. As I don't believe in Jesus or any other deity, and can't imagine ever doing so, perhaps I will never know.
There seems to be this notion that because someone is creationist that they're anti-science. Quite the contrary! Rather science increases my faith in God. Looking out into the stars, understanding how the human body works, the great logic I've developed from learning how to code, all these things enhance my understanding of scripture. Consequently, science actually brings me closer to Christ.
But what I am against is the theory of evolution (macro level) and the big bang theory. Does disagreeing with a couple of theories make me anti-science? Of course it doesn't.
My original argument is not one for creationism or for that matter against evolution. My issue is with ignorance of most commenters on both topics and their blind faith in the later. I call it faith when I believe in God. However, when people believe in evolution it's called science. The logical used is contradictory!
lgw: I think your replying to me, but I'm having trouble following the threads. I'm probably not communicating very well through them either.:-/
My original argument is that most talking about this topic on Slashdot give little impression that they actually know what they are talking about. Furthermore, their level of devotion is closer to religion (vi vs Emacs) then a well reasoned argument. When I talk about my devotion to God I call it what it is: faith.
AK Marc inadvertently proves my point. He mixes logic (gravity and gravitational theory). There's a big difference in observed behavior and the how and why it happens. Then he seems to jump off a cliff and assume I am dissing all scientific theories. Wha?! That looks more like devotion than a logical reasoned argument.
Please note that I haven't attempted to defend my position on creationism or Christianity. However, if anyone is intersted, I'll be more than happy to elaborate.
There's a difference between the gravity (things fall) and gravitational theory (why things fall). Gravitational theory is not fact and is still a work in progress.
The problem is most commenters have no clue about creationism or evolution
Here's a clue I have about evolution and creationism: Only one is a scientific theory.:)
It's really tough to hear all these baseless arguments against my faith.
Paradox alert? Faith is, according to Merriam Webster, is "firm belief in something for which there is no proof."
Kind regards
Evolutionary theory by it's very nature has no proof. Good sir, you have more faith than me!
I'm a creationist who agrees with a literal interpretation of the bible and advocates a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I'm also a solid programmer and love open source. It's really tough to hear all these baseless arguments against my faith. The problem is most commenters have no clue about creationism or evolution, yet pretend to use logic to hold to their bias. That's BS!
I use the Mac's built-in Keychain. It encrypts the passwords all the while integrating nicely with the entire operating system and the vast majority of apps. One notable exception is Firefox, but I understand Mozilla is working on that.
Also, I have my home directory encrypted using File Vault which contains my keychain. My virtual memory is encrypted too.
My grandmother is deaf. All three of her children are licensed sign language interpreters. And several of her grandchildren are licensed sign language interpreters. If you're deaf and in Alabama, it wouldn't be surprising if you know my family.:-)
Grandma uses a Blackberry. Several of the others use a Sidekick. For some reason T-Mobile seems to be the preferred provider, but I'm not sure why.
By the way, sorry to hear about your loss and, in all seriousness, thanks for serving.
I'm the Systems Administrator for my company. I used to be the Prepress Manager as well until we hired this fabulous lady to handle it instead. More Slashdot for me.:-) At my company we don't care what color space the image is in. It gets converted to the industry standard SWOP color space (CMYK) no matter if its RGB, LAB, or grayscale by our Kodak Prinergy workflow. Anything that's printed goes through this PDF based system. Its amazing. The software just color converts automatically!:-p Welcome to the new millennium
Thanks so much for bringing this up. I've just spent a great deal of time trying to make a Mac mini do Linux software raid-1. On the mini the whole partition thing was kicking my butt! I was able to do it, but it was _very_ difficult.
Any knowledge base articles detailing the partitioning stuff?
Then again, I could skip the personal injury lawyer commercials and their darn jingles.
There's this jingle on TV from one of those personal injury lawyer commercials that my one year old son just loves. For some reason, any time its on the boob tube he completely stops what he's doing and quietly watches the whole 30 second ad. I'm not sure how good the lawyers are, but they could make a killin' on DVDs.
I'd recommend MPEG4. Good quality and a small size. And MPEG4 can easily be played QuickTime.
If the clips are being played directly in a web page like maybe the low-rez version, I'd also recommend re-saving the MPEG4 as a QuickTime movie with fast-start. That way the movie feels like its steaming. Then offer the high-rez version as a pure MPEG4 compressed in a zip. The reason its zipped up is so that it doesn't accidentally play in the browser.
Encoding can be done using tools that handle DivX, xvid, or ffmpeg codecs as they do MPEG4. I prefer xvid. I'm on a Mac, so I can't recommend specific PC tools. I'd guess that open source tools are available for encoding, and are quite sure that freeware or shareware encoders are available. QuickTime Pro ($20) will be needed to resave the MPEG4 as a fast-start movie.
There is an example on my website showing off my then unborn son (no sound).

It was PG-13!
IMBD: The Dark Night
I just checked their site. Current rates a $4/megabit.

Do all of the above. The more places you have your stuff visible. The more people will watch it. It's good marketing.
That said, I like Vimeo. You get low rez for your own site, high def on their site, and users with an account can download the source file.
No, I don't work for Vimeo.
There are also some paid video hosts such as BrightCove and Ooyala.

RTM == Radio Television Malaysia? What in the world does that stand for?
Puts a new meaning to the term "Feeling Blue."
I'm still trying to figure the math on how 33.6 million is 12% and 3 million is 10%. Looks like someone slipped in a zero.
OK. Good to know. Now what's your option on DomainKeys?
You'll be fine as long as you put your ISP in your SPF record. Like this:
"v=spf1 mx mx:mx.adelphia.net ~all"
Nah. After the Slashdoting, it all goes to pay bandwidth costs!

I think the word LOSER would do it best. It would also have the additional benefit of representing most of the Slashdot crew (including me). ;-)
Yeah, but, how do you make extra cash. {Ducks}
