    I once had a boss who added 50% to any time estimate I gave him. Always saying, -meh all good engineers are notorious time optimists.
    I often returned the favor by reporting that a project was 80% done, so now only the last 80% remained.

    Exactly, how is it abuse to skip commercials on recorded content? I do understand that that the producers need money, but you can not force viewers to watch content they do not want to see. Do you want to make it illegal to go to the loo during the commercial break as well? Perhaps the producers could try a humble attitude and a "Donate" button instead of advertising companies?

    Here in Japan, chopsticks are commonly used for eating breakfast ( we do love our white rice three times a day). But if my son wanted to try to eat his cereals with chopsticks, I'd just say;
    -Go for it son!
    But remember you have to be in school in 15 minutes.
    If he was a toddler I'd just let him play till he tired of it.
    I don't now enough on training mentally handicapped children to know if this may be useful to them, but that is about the only scenario that I can think of.
    Except for the crappy example, the tech seems pretty cool if it works.

    Well I think this will change with the younger generation preferring the slow painful death as it is a great opportunity to get a huge amounts of hits on their blog posts for an extended period of time.

    I am not a baby boomer, not even in my own country which did not synchronize its baby boom with USA.

    But I am old enough, to realize that younger generation always believe that they can do things better, which is perfectly fine and the way it should be I think.
    And sometimes they will improve on the wheel, other times they just end up with a square with rounded corners still believing it must be an improvement as it wasn't invented by neck beards.

    I guess what I am saying is: Respect the giant on whose shoulders you are standing, but if it does not get you where you want to go, then by all means climb down and start from scratch. But then do so on your own merits, no need to discredit the tech/ideas that you are obsoleting.

    I think this is sort of like asking Slashdot whether or not you should jerk off in public to drum up business because your employer asks you.

    And the answer is of-course it depends.

    It depends on - in no particular order:

    - Is it in line with your morals and ethics?
    - Can it be construed to be part of your job description?
    - Is it legal in the jurisdiction you are in?
    - Does it pay well?
    - Would you enjoy doing it?
    - Do you need the money?
    - What happens if you refuse?
    - Do you have other offers?

    Answer these questions to your self, and you probably know what to do.

    I am sorry, but this is not insightful. Yes it is good that modern reactors depend on gravity for control rod insertion. But it is irrelevant in this discussion as they are talking about cooling systems not control rods. In fact units 1,2 and 3 scrammed successfully (4,5 and were already shut down). But even after the control rods are in place, the reactor need cooling and this was what failed at Fukushima. And modern designs where the control rods are lowered by gravity would not have changed anything.

    I predict future generations will think of Monsanto like we thought of Microsoft, and call them Mon$anto on webforums, all while eating a good serving Breakfeast serials developed on M$ Corn Version 11. They will have to be careful, because it is incompatible with M$ Corn v. 10 products, not to mention the "Secured Metabolism" feature that would almost certainly cause the Blue Face of Death if you tried including some Open Genome Food into your diet.

    Yes, I heard of it just not by that name. As someone already stated, they are a lousy idea. But I think they are a lousy idea that farmers could understand, and hence there would not be much of a market I imagine.
    And if there is a market, then the customer is a moron. Which sort of brings me back to the intention of my original post.
