It's just that people can't program non-buggy in it.
Its hard to write non-buggy code in any language. ill admit it is easier to mess up alot of stuff in c++, but bug free code is not often seen anywhere. A team must make bug free code a priority and devote alot of time to achieving that goal. Even then it might not be possible to write truly bug free code.
Because they run in a browser that frames your experience differently over different platforms. most apps take up the whole screen and the users is forced into an experience that is 100% under the designers control.
I believe that these projects use molten salt to store energy and produce power through most of the night as well. I could be wrong, just what i remember from similar stories in the past.
I've always thought something like this(link below) was a good way to keep students engaged, make it fun, and give students a better idea of what programming was really about. The programming is OO so most of the hard work is done by the environment, students just get a simple list of methods to use. And you could have a giant tank robot battle to the death at the end of the semester. was always told it was too complicated for new programmers.
ps. i have no affiliation with the project other than using it in high school. Just thought it was always a great idea and underutilized tool.

Just another case where someone gets mad when someone else did something they didn't like. Happens in politics, happens in business, happens in every police force around the globe. Good thing we have overly vague sections of law that we can use to arrest anyone with.
Sheesh, these browser version numbers are climbing quickly.
Reminds me of some of my code under source control. Since any committed code increments the version number i have versions in the thousands. not all releasable however.
Maybe we should be labeling software based off the current version, since software like chrome is automatically upgraded anyway. for instance if you are one version from the current you browser will say chrome -1. the current would just be chrome without a version number. it would give a social incentive to upgrade, and show how far you are behind.
so if an ISP is discriminating in the US (where your favorite services houses their servers) you service will still be throttled or potentially cut off. Its a good first step but net neutrality is a global problem and needs to be treated as such.
what makes it so expensive? seems like a really intense 3d modeling software would be expensive, but a one time cost. is it just a lack of man power? I even understand that the process requires a good deal of processing power, but what is stopping the software from doing some rough rendering while tweaking scenes and leaving the really CPU intense stuff for the evening.
Considering a shady copyright claim can be made on all search results even though they are fair use. A new search engine could be easily crushed with litigation or a seizure. This pattern could be used against any site or service that collects and manages data from several sources.
A shortcut that has aways been on my gnome desktop is the kill window shortcut. click the button, my mouse turns into a set of cross-hairs, click the offending window, and its gone immediately. the ability to use ps -e and kill -9 are a big reason i stay on Linux. just one of the ways that linux will let me have full control over my environment. for better or worse.
The skills that college teaches are different from those that are used in industry. college taught me less about best practices, like source controller or TDD, and more about abstract concepts of computing, like classes in comparative languages and operating system. the skills are from two difference perspective, both perspective are useful and aren't necessarily are mutually exclusive.
I've always said that Sony is the most control-freak tech company in the world (making even Nintendo and Apple look sedate by comparison)
I think that could be part of their problem. if the company is a control freak towards their employee's time, then their employees aren't very likely to be spending a lot of time working on stuff that isn't directly brining in revenue(like security, maintenance, or improving business processes). the management probably just expects it, without any impact on time of development or extra maintenance.
is there a option to update over the Internet yet? switch away from fedora because it was a pain to download a new dvd every 6 months to update versions.
more mine. would be awesome if slashdot would let you edit your comments after you posted. maybe if the system gave you 2 minutes before anyone could reply and you could fix those errors you only see right after pressing the submit button. might help with those knee-jerk troll reactions too.

A $500,000 on gaming consoles is a small price to pay to show our appreciation to our troops.
Always think of this comic when i hear the word captcha now.

Does 30 billion seem small to anyone else? I assume that number is not normalized for inflation for each investment.

...we should wait for the sequel then ?
Perhaps coding in 3d is difficult if you can not "see" or perceive the output of your computation?

don't forget to let users upload the locations of new lemonade stands from the client. Wouldn't want anyone to miss out on such a tasty beverage.

I could see this ending badly when a million people miss-use this licensed material and / or use someones copyrighted work and mark it CC

This has always been one of my favorite xkcds. Someone should make it into a x-mas card so we can hand it out to relatives over the holidays.
think the correct syntax is 'computer science != word processing' :-).
I could go for a Ballmer Zombie instead.
really meant launcher. the escape key cancels it. i dont think the distro matters, but mine is openSuse.
