we both have the same to loose. So if China decides that they can get by with just their intranet then deterrence doesn't work. Especially since the stakes for the US and rest of the world would be total economic collapse. Also concerning is the less one side understands about the technological concepts and repercussions the more likely ether side is start a cyber war. and we all know our decision makers are crack technologists. A least nukes mean the total end of the physical world, where no one is likely to exactly know what would happen if we erased the virtual one.
Having said that Google's search has noticeably deteriorated over the last couple of years. I often have to hit the Nth page now to find stuff I'm looking for.
I switched to http://duckduckgo.com/ a few weeks ago. I find it is much better at returning actual sites instead the long form posts that mentioned questions, but lacked actual information past that.
Anyone know how much every twitter user using ssl would slow down the service? twitter has always been a little slow (not surprising given how many requests they receive). This effort has got to introduce a huge scaling problem right?
I've been looking for an alternative to Java for some time. Java was appealing because of it cross-platform compatibility, and relatively easy to use GUI classes. Anyone have any suggestions?
I thought the same thing after reading the article. It was their modules that were broken in the release so you would expect them to have more specific automated testing for these areas.
I would gladly pay more for three things, higher quality materials(no more of that fake wood shit), U.S. made, and a trustworthy company. That last one is a bit tricky. I trust a company when they continue to improve, instead of sitting back and when they think something is 'good enough.' i also need someone who i can call, communicate with, and treat me like I'm a reasonable human being.
I think one of the biggest issues is the gap in price between good products and low end stuff. I want my music to sound good and I'm willing to buy something that is 3x the cost of the everyday / low end equipment. But instead I'm given the choice between low end equipment or pro-awesome-blow-your-mind stuff that is 10 times more expensive, with nothing in between. I would love the more expensive stuff, but I just can't afford a 10,000 worth of stereo gear.
I do remember an episode of Voyager where some Borg re-asserted their individualism and started a revolution. However they were quickly wiped out by the collective by the end of the episode. look for the same thing to happen here.:P
I hope they show some np 'unsolvable' problems. they translate nicely into easy to understand story problems and show that we still have alot to learn even about math.
If you have correctly followed commonly agreed upon standards how much of your application is really going to break? and like everyone else has said previous, they are small incremental changes not akin to the old paradigm of huge versions. you could also use a test suite and automate those tests. just some thoughts.
The same arguments could be made for or against teaching a child martial arts. In my opinion it is another way to teach children to think critically. But with great power come great responsibility.
So if I publish a book through amazon i get to keep 30% of the profit, but if i make an smart phone app i get to keep 70% of what i sell. seems a little lopsided. I dont think that the tech / operating cost for books publishing is much different than an app store.
I had the same problem with nhl gamecenter. I was more than happy to spend $150 / year to watch games, but since i live in Cleveland, most east coast games are in market. (Pittsburgh, Detroit, NY, Buffalo), resulting in me canceling the service. At least the upside is that the NHL streams the radio broadcasts for free so i can listen. as in all sport the radio announcers are better too.

I play more 2600 than xbox. Pong is a great social game after the bar.
because they will need them for the decades of litigation that it will take to get the song rights back.

A budget like theirs would also help :)
..is measured in what we won't produce and is therefore something we will never known.
Tell congress that they can turn it around and use it as a spy satellite. Then attach it to the defense budget.

its not even unique to 'solutions' in general.
GitHubs 404 is great. cartoon rendition of a scene from a new hope with the title 'this is not the page you are looking for'

...its a feature!!!
Don't forget the smoke stacks out the back.

Because that would be cheating ;) Look for a rules change in the next round of competition. You must be this tall to operate the vehicle.
from what I can tell they are the same event.
