Starting with firefox 56, "tree style tab" is so buggy it is almost unusable. There is no WebExtenions-based replacement that would even approach its functionality. The version 2.0 for firefox57+ will NOT have the features people are used to. e.g.: like in chrome with similar extensions, there will be 2 tab bars (the native horizontal one + crappy always-broken javascripty injected vertical one); no context menus on tabs, etc..
if they really crave a UI change, they should integrate "Tree Style Tab" functionality into firefox.
i only have 3 remaining reasons for using firefox: * tree style tab extension (not gonna work in new version; all replacements are a joke compared to this extension) * privacy (the amount of addons to help me with this and the mindset of mozilla foundation are unmatched elsewhere. mozilla have repeatedly demonstrated they care about privacy and openness of the interwebs. i simply don't trust chrome/chromium) * being able to disable search in the address bar (so that i can type git/plex/etc.. and go to a server on my LAN)
ALL 3 of these reasons will have gone when current firefox ESR loses support next year. f**k them.
i'd rather employ 1 person who can singletask properly than 3 people who claim to multitask with ease. as far as I can tell, multitasking is a myth perpetuated to women by (mostly) other women and (possibly) the single biggest hindrance to their effectiveness in any job.
for the price of one EdgeRouter Lite, you can buy two EdgeRouter X. I also wholeheartedly recommend Ubiquiti AP AC Lite. I had an Asus rt-ac68u which never even reached half of its advertised wifi speeds. With UAP AC Lite, speeds above 50 MBytes/s on wifi are now normal in my household.
well, a gnome developer is also a user and he knows his preferences. although it looks like all they agree on are lowest common denominators.
to play the devil's advocate: i work for a company that writes its own software. we're not a software development company but we have a development team of over 50 people. we write for ourselves but have made it open source so other people/companies can use/fork it. our business is built on the data we feed and extract out of the software so making it free gives no advantage to competitors.
at first, we didn't accept external feature requests, only politely responded that people should fork it. everything was good. a year later, after we responded to a few requests and implemented them, floodgates of demands, hatemail and slander opened. the level of entitlement culture was amazing. there was almost no civil discussion among users, so we deleted forums and respond only to bug reports. perhaps, gnome developers are facing the same thing.
maybe you know, maybe you don't, maybe other people will find this interesting - openvpn 2.4 can now be configured to be (so far) completely indistinguishable from regular https traffic when used with --tls-crypt option and run on the appropriate port.
The Tao gave birth to machine language. Machine language gave birth to the assembler. The assembler gave birth to the compiler. Now there are ten thousand languages. Each language has its purpose, however humble. Each language expresses the Yin and Yang of software. Each language has its place within the Tao. But do not program in COBOL if you can avoid it.
although i don't know how long it's been like that, right now on gnu/linux, virtualbox is a frontend for KVM. on windows, it's a frontend for hyper-v. you CAN still use the *legacy* virtualbox native hypervisor but it's not selected by default.
We send aaron eckhart with hillary swank and a small nuke in a giant metal dildo underground to give the core a boost. Haven't you seen the documentary? It's been done before.
i'm one of the people who hates NetworkManager with passion. BUT i guess, on RedHat, it's either that, or only only simple networking. i've yet to meet a RedHat person who can, without NetworkManager and/or without GUI, configure my standard server setup:
vlan interfaces on top of bridged interfaces on top of 802.3ad bonded interfaces on top of physical interfaces
Without clicking the link myself, I'll make a guessumption that it's actually the macbook pro that cant handle the external screen and therefore the reviews are criticising the wrong thing. While apple is quietly fixing the issue, they're stopping the bad reviews in the meantime.
You guys would be surprised if you knew how much this epipen costs in most European countries. In mine, it's about 35 euro (for a single pen) if you're a tourist from outside EU. 4.40, if you have (compulsory) insurance (60/month). I regularly see American tourists attempting to buy these, but they're tied to a prescription.
Because for every 1 vocal systemd opponent, there are 100 quiet satisfied systemd users. I was a vocal opponent until i had to actually use and rely on it. I wouldn't go back if you paid me. It has made my job a lot easier.
there's your answer right there. apple should license its OS to 3rd party manufacturers. they'll still make loads of dosh certifying HW for their SW. they'll still make money with their premium HW. everybody will be happy.
i also hate balancing a large brick in 1 hand while trying to control the UI. i loved my galaxy s2.
i laughed when i discovered that swiping finger across the 'home touch buttons' on my lg g4 "unmaximises" the gui and brings its smaller version to the lower righthand part of the screen for 1 handed operation. the rest of the screen just turns black. it's the most ridiculous feature a phone can have.
Woohoo, somebody got the reference.
> He's not just focussing on phones
> He's talking about thermostats
> He's talking about vendors
Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturer of dairy products.

well, maybe saying it's just a frontend for kvm is a bit of an overstatement, but not by much - https://www.virtualbox.org/man...

oh come on! the aim is for the children to pay attention to the story. even the freaking cavemen drew pictures on the walls.
Not gonna happen until they separate the ad banner from the actual app.
That's not the point of the story. It's about child labour and the great things you can achieve with it (as the chinese have proven gazillion times).
