  1. Actual this is great on U.S. Service Personnel Data Stolen · · Score: 4, Insightful

Actually this is the best thing that could have happened. A complete failure in a system, potential for identity theft, and involving current/past service men/women. I am one of those by the way.

Why is this the best thing? Cause when troops are involved national pride actually works and things get done. People will flip out over this and they will finally fix it. Think of the children is first followed quickly by think of the troops. Now maybe they'll put the responsibility where it belongs. Squarely on the shoulders of those companies that deal with credit. Then I'll stop getting those calls for the new service that protects my credit and it only costs $14.95 a month. Make that free and actually go after these thieves instead of what they do now.

You started the fight and you expected them to buckle but you forgot one thing. They don't care if what they do is illegal. You do.

They will keep sending their junk and if you think they will ever stop you are naive. You can't stop them from doing it. You have to accept that first and then come up with a method that will just make it harder for them to get their junk out.

Well who's this federal source? I trust the media as much as I trust the government. To say "in-person interview" means nothing. We need names and people not hiding in dark alleys to come forward.

Sure you could argue what they (the government) are doing with this (if they are) is illegal but the leaks to start with were illegal. Regardless of how you feel about what was leaked.

That call database should be gathered. It should be maintained by a seperate entity where queries to the database are approved by a panel of judges with the sole purpose of fighting terrorism. That ends the problem.

  19. Tree Rings on 20th Century Warmest In 1200 Years · · Score: 1

Before taking the word of this article look at the definition of tree rings.

    --
Tree rings - Growth rings formed annually in a tree's trunk, which often reflect the conditions in which the tree grew. Thicker rings are indicative of a good growing season with ideal temperatures and sufficient rain. See Dendrochronology.

Dendrochronology - A type of absolute dating. The technique is based on the fact that trees add a ring of growth annually, and counting the rings gives the age of the tree. The rings vary in size depending on the conditions affecting trees in an area, so trees from the same region will have similar patterns of growth and can be matched with one other. When a tree ring pattern is recognized in timber, the age of that timber can be calculated and thus the approximate age of the feature or structure to which it belongs can be determined. This method was first widely used in the American Southwest.

    So...

Factors beyond warmth like rain fall effect the tree as well to grow better or worse.

When the question was asked stripped of any mention of terrorism, 46 percent of those respondents approved, and 50 percent said they disapproved.

Take terrorism out and the numbers shift. I wonder why? Does that mean americans care about fightining terrorists?

Also just because someone says "it's against the law" doesn't make it against the law. Right now as the President has said it is within the law - they research these things. Of course it is up to the courts to decide if it is or isn't. So wait for the hearing.
