I am referring to all of the lawyers that would argue either side of a case depending on which side offered them more money. These people are not driven by an inner sense of justice and making the world a better place, but simply following their own motivations of greed and rationalizing away any negative effects their greedy actions are causing society.
It's almost like it's a job for them to argue cases, not some quest to improve the world.
I think we've seen that the profiles and search patterns used could easily be abused. I seem to recall that the IRS was recently targeting specific groups of citizens. How can you be so confident that the NSA will never make a search pattern that matches you at some point?
The fact that data they collect on an individual doesn't get used does not lessen their ability to use it at some time in the future.
Yeah, but couldn't you hope that people stop shooting out babies rather than hope that worldwide wars and famines take care of it? I know that's not realistic. I kind of share the GP's sentiment. Who hopes for famine and war?
I hope everyone else is thankful that Kodak still has large stockpiles of a material that there is so little commercial interest in, they're stopping production. Why do we need bullshit remarks at the end of TFS? Just post the story and leave the editorials to the comments.
I don't really giva a shit if it is legal or not. It needed to be brought to light so the public can decide how they feel about it and make laws accordingly.
I imagine he just teleported down there then? He kind of had to get his gear into the canyon. It's either hike down, take it on a long boat trip with some major rapids, or helicopter.
As the AC mentioned, you can use NoScript to block these scripts from running on a site. You could also universally disable javascript in the browser. NoScript is the most granular blocking that I'm aware of, and it's granularity is by domain. This means if xyz.com has this sort of script on their site and you block xyz.com, the site would also not be able to do a lot of other javascript stuff. This can be range from no problem for the site to making the site unusable.
Were do you draw the line? Ape meat is problematic, but what about monkeys, or lemurs? If you eat meat of any kind, but won't eat apes or highly intelligent animals. How do you draw the line? It seems to be a bit of a paradox that can only be resolved in a couple ways. 1. Don't eat any meat at all, this prevents the moral dilemma of trying to ascertain the intelligence of a species before you eat it. or 2. Eat any animal you want. If you can catch and eat one, it wasn't intelligent enough.
As for trim, most houses these days use quarter-round at the most, because it's cheap. If you have something fancier on there, you probably have a higher-end house. But even then you can usually find something at home depot that's pretty close, unless you had some totally custom house made. Tract house builders don't get specially-made trim; they buy cheap off-the-shelf stuff from the local hardware store.
I have never seen a house so cheap to just use quarter round for the trim. I doubt it would even cover the gap at the bottom of sheetrock walls. They might use a cheap clam shell moulding, but quarter round or shoe moulding is used to cover the gap between trim and flooring.
Although my language was harsh, I didn't intend for my comment to be bashing of the Boston police department. I was just trying to point out to rodrigoandrade that this package could very easily be mistaken for a bomb or other suspicious device, because it has happened before.
The Boston PD thought a bunch of LED signs for the Aqua Teen's movie were bombs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Boston_bomb_scare. They had batteries, a PCB, and wires. Even the most well trained employees can be complete morons at times.
My critical reading skills must suck. This is the first I noticed that the "News for Nerds" byline is gone. Damn, now countless comments about why an article is on Slashdot will no longer be needed. Which means we'll probably see an increase in the number of "this is old news" comments to make up for it.
I'm inclined to agree with your rant about using the comment for half the reply, but at least the dude you replied to had a complete sentence in the subject. Splitting a sentence between the subject and the beginning of the comment is the worst.
It sounds like you may just want high powered lasers to hit the cameras. Perhaps just try shooting them as you go by with firearms, preferably while going at least 100 mph.
No, it's not equal. It also isn't equal that the woman has to carry the child for 9 months, give birth to it, and then breastfeed the child (unless fomula is used). I don't see this as gender discrimination. I think it is more along the lines of the woman having gone through a much bigger ordeal.
Sure I'd be much happier getting those extra weeks off, but I'd rather work those weeks than go through the physical process of carrying and delivering a baby.

I find it hard to label someone as paranoid, when the government is indeed recording all of this data about them.

You donate all your spare time to anyone that needs it with no benefit to yourself?
Just to play devil's advocate here. Getting paid is not the only benefit you get from doing things.

I'm willing to accept several 9/11 attacks if it means I get to keep my freedom and privacy. Besides, I don't live anywhere terrorists want to attack.

How do you figure. Royksopp is Norwegian. Unless you had a specific song in mind.

Way to fail. Mechanical != physical
I love seeing articles that scream about their bias in the headline.
"Intel Has No Process Advantage In Mobile, says ARM CEO"
How is navigation safety related? Unless they have a no judgement night mode to avoid the bad places.
Much like you, I want the tech in a car to focus on the aspects of keeping the occupants safe, and to be about driving the car.
It sounds like you may just want high powered lasers to hit the cameras. Perhaps just try shooting them as you go by with firearms, preferably while going at least 100 mph.
WTF? It's a loss of down penalty too?
If they had happy endings that might effect the birthrate.

I see you've confused popular literature with proof and valid references.
