There's a very well-made (10 mins) fan movie of the Hunger Games that happened 24 years earlier than the one in the book (and the upcoming movie). No spoilers are included for the book and it will give you a great idea of what to expect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mUjssn86h4

And Battle Royale was a complete rip-off of Stephen King. Yet it's still very different from his story. Same with this.

Ok, it's a "design patent" on the same level as all the copyright stuff. I can't edit my post, or I'd change it to read "frivolous/bullshit/patenting blatantly obvious stuff that shouldn't be patentable". In any case, I thought the EU was trending away from this crap.

I loved KDE3. I have been less than impressed with KDE4. Even though it looks nice, there was always a one or two second pause after I clicked anything on the desktop before the program would open. This got really irritating. Is it fixed? If so, I'd be much more likely to use KDE4.

  18. Fantasy on Ask Slashdot: What Do You Like To Read? · · Score: 2

I really like "The Deed of Paksennarrion" by Elizabeth Moon. It's about a paladin, and is easily the best fantasy book on a holy warrior. "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" series by Steven Erikson is fantastic. And the main series is finished, so there's no worry about it not getting done like certain other major fantasy series.

It's for the regulars. I know comic shops always have a TON of sales on Wednesdays, as it's new release day every single week. Many people only go that day, and aren't seen in the shop otherwise. They just know that Wednesday is the day. And many people like routines and it's hard to forget this.
