The article makes is sound like this is a totally senseless, random act with no explanation, but that's a little misleading. While it's easy to argue that 50 years is already too long, Canada's 50 year term is also an outlier on the low end in the international community. Most other countries have a 70 year copyright term for recorded music, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, etc. The US allows for 95 years. Having copyright terms that uniform across international boarders is useful.
I believe the 95 years is for film, not audio recordings, although I might be wrong. In the UK it's 50 years, not 70, as already many pre 1962 items are pubblic domain Unless they've changed it in the last 3 years there. After approximately 2010 there was a glut of bargain basement '50s recordings on cheap labels with "free" recordings, all coming from the UK, and , perhaps other places such as spain... This is all moot, however, as your whole argument is based on the "everybody else is doing it so I should be able to" Just because everybody ELSE is going around prodding cattle prodsa up stranger's butts *doesn't* mean it's OK for you too. WTF is WRONG with the moprality in this world?
I can tell you that, after having been a musician for 40 years,.. Zip. Zilch. Unless they're reissued, and that is a possibility, since retro is popular. But even then, it's the record companies that own the copyrights on most recordings before 1980, and the artist may or may not be deemed worthy to recieve a pttance, depending on if they have rights to their own publishing . I think if the industry gave a flying fuck about the artists they grind up, then instead of pushing for a 70 year term, which only benefits the big labels as all the recordings concerned are from the 60's music boom wherein the labels owned everything, then instead they would insist on a tax on every single used recpord tape and CD sold, to be divided upo between the recording artists and , possibly, head studio tech.
No he said the only "correct choice". For decades, Americans have been making the "wrong" choices.. choosing all the options you listed.. Frankly, I think it's too late now. Putting the genie back in the bottle is darn near impossible...
Sure adds motivation to go get that GT40 "kit car", or build a beautiful T-bucket, with the simplest suspension and drivetrain you can imagine, or rebuild a '57 chev 2 door... Why would anyone ever want a rolling computer?
You are one of the few mentioning rainwater collection. Well done.
Average rainfall is California is around 10 inches per year. Google says California has 163,696 square miles of area.
1 furlong per fortnight = 0.000166309524 m/s. Carry the naught. [This is to appease Europeans, and hillbillies, alike]
3,800,000,000,000 cubic feet of water fall on California each year. 7.5 US gallons per cubic foot. 28 trillion gallons in total.
Total water usage, average to a per capita is around 2,000 gallons per person.
California population is around 37M.
28 T / (37M * 2K) = 425.
One year's California rainfall could service the entire state's water needs for 425 years.
Recovering one-quarter of one percent of the rain that falls on the state each year would provide enough water for everyone for the entire year.
Your statistics are based on normal weather patterns. California's weather has been anything but normal for the last six or seven years. NO rain has been falling. NONE. The reservior is entirely dry. Just sand. Therefore your hypothesis is entirely useless.
These "assholes" supply half of the food on your supper table. And your breakfast table. They don't just grow almonds. How about fruits, veggies, other nuts, and god knows what else. If Calif goes under, you'll be back on bread and potatos for breakfast lunch and dinner, thank you..
Well, it's pretty clear to me that they don't want their dirty laundry exposed.. seeing as they live in Germnany where even an offhand comment against a jew can get you into jail, and Goebbels was minister of propoganda.. the biggest jewish hate speaker of them all
Upon reflection, I think it's because FM is too easy to be used for underground freedom information. Which, in a new world order totaliatarian state, could be a problem for them..
Dogma for the puppy, and Karma for the volkswagen. Incidentally, I thought dogs, bears, and even sea lions came from the same family, and they already know the past genetic for bears and sea lions.. so why not dogs?
No, really, it's the right word, which was used for one season. I know this because for years now this person has been putting this in first post, and due to all the comments, frankly I've learned more aboyut the golden girls than I ever wanted to know. Only thing I *don't* know, is why in the world would anyone even bother doing this.. Is their life just soo barren that it's their high point? Maybe we should feel sorry for this first poster...
Everybody else on/. seems to agree (how often has THAT happened!) that it's a truly noble action, and I also applaud this move. I have a concern though. After tax, 7- grand can plummet down to the mid 30s, in actual *usable* incomne. Perhaps another 20g is safe with some kind of shelter, but you can't easily spend that money, so it's not usable. That means that his monthly income would be around 3 something grand. In Seattle, a bachelor ap't can easily run 2Gs or more, and a house (rent or mortgage) $2.000 to $2.500. Doesn't leave a lot for $350 P.M. car payments, "smart meter" calculated energy costs ($300 p.m.) etc etc. That means he's going to have to slowly increase his pay/reverse his pay cut to get by. And there's the rub. How the devil would his employees react to a CEO who couldn't calculate his living expenses effectively? And then had to bump up his salary? Now, maybe he really is lucky to have very low living expenses, but what if an emergency comes along.. Those bonuses would be the only thing he could tap into. All of this means nothing, really..Just thinking out loud.. I still think it was a good move in a world full of greedy investors, shareholders, and CEOs who believe the new mantra of record returns every quarter. It used to be a good investment was one that was stable and trustworthy , and nobody expected record profits each and every quarter.,.. "sigh"
Well what do you expect from one of the most deadly poisons ever invented? Even analine dye, which is terribly poisonous, isn't as bad because poisoning by it can be treated. Acetaminophen poisoning will kill you after five days of the most horrendously painful and horrible symptoms ever, first, and there's no effective antidote for it.
Actually, I should have said there's no effective painless antidote for it. They can,m of course, stuff a long needle in your liver and if you then survbive you'll be permanently damaged. Anyone thinking of ending it via tylenol ought to know it might not work, and they'll be dependant on others the rest of their lives.

War is almost never about disagreements, but greed. You have something. I want it. You won't give it to me so we go to war. That "something" can be oil, land, human resources (as in people). Rarely it's about religion.. although it seems to be popular again, and not since the islamic invasions of the 9th century where they pretty much conquered all of europe and arabia.. The crusades really hardly counted at all as religious wars, in comparison.. but the Knights just weren't nearly as bloodthirsty as the lslamics...
NAtural selection certainly can work that quickly if the genes are strong enough, and econoomic factors come into play. In most countries it's the poor people that have the most children . Statistically, poor people are much shorter, so naturally the majortity of any such region would be shorter.. Look it up on google if you want proof. Also some genetics for short people are dominant, such as Malaysians and, in fact, most Asians.. In parts of Scandinavia and especially the Netherlands, however, it's the affluent people that have children most often, and more of them. Coupled with the Dutch genetic tendancy in certain regions to be very tall already, it's natural this woiuld occur. Not all Dutch are genetically disposed to be tall.. Freislanders , as in my family, tend to be short. Conversely, Amsterdamers are notoriously tall.
Yup, my OSX Mail app informed me of that as well. It simply asked me if I wanted to continue. I assumed there was some kind of server problem accessing the certificates. After all, Google couldn't possibly be that incompetent as to let their certs expire. It used to be a common event back in the day, when Netscape 4 was current, that certs would expire all the time. But not now. Too busy snooping in on everyone else , I guess, to bother to check at home..
I think the powdered alcohol guy has had too many of his own packets.. an ounce of alcool at 120 proof would weigh pretty much the same as an ounce of powdered alcohol.. given that it's.6 of an ounce alcohol as well. So how is it lighter? Or easier to carry? Most hard alcohol comes in lighter plastic bottles now, so the glass isn't the issue...
Do you really think they'd even be able to find the source buried inside all those colorful comments? Or maybe M$ would spend 5 years cleaning it up.. Also, er.. which windows ? The operating system? Or the graphical user interface? Moot point, really.IMHO, It WAS an April fool's.. just a late one. Precisely *what* percentage of Microsoft's revenue comes from Windows? 50%? 75% 95% Even if it was 10% i doubt that shareholders would stand for it, not even as an April fools joke....
Because it seems/. has full audio ads now, the ones that run irrespective of input. I was looking all around to see if I had opened up some seedy rag like before its news, which does that all the time.. but nope. It was/.
