    Usually treat religion as science. Seriously. all the folks who call science a religion somehow tend to be fundamentalists that use observation and conclusions towards religion.. they treat the Bible like a scientific manual, even though they poo poo science. And all science is, is conclusions based on observation and repeatable experiments.

    Yeah, perhaps, but he may have a point. There's no mention of which iDevice he installed it on. USing an Apple OS on any earliest device ids bound to cause sluggishness, because Apple today is not the Apple of old. Formerly, each iteration of any Apple OS was always faster than the previous one. That all changed around the time OSX 10.6 came out, and iOS became established on iDevices. Now it's a given that each new one is going to be a pig on older hardware. So my advice is upgrade the hardware or live with it.

    Now, if it were iOS apps..THEN it would be news. There's a million different options already for running android apps on a desktop.. OK not a million, but plenty. But still not a single one for iOS apps..

    I can't begin to say how many times Google's doubleclick ads have set off the "This website may damage your computer", even though I I'm relatively protected, as I use a Mac, and the warnings come from, of all places, Google Chrome!. It then warns me that if I choose to continue, "bad things" might happen.. However, it doesn't actually allow me to continue. So why the warning at all about what could happen? Go figure...

    I seem to remember from my studies years ago that it's all in the language a statement is couched in.. As per the title of the post, "Apple will not unlock" iDevices in future, or "Apple can not unlock" iDevices.. I am sure that "will not" would leave one open to contempt, but "can not" is safe harbour.. Anyone know?

    Naw, pretty simple, eh?"...8000 Diapers, before they.." They is directly after diapers, so "they" refers tothe the last noun in the sentence..

    So if they're all , essentially, crooked, will bribery work, like in Mexico? OTOH, probably not ;-) They might think there's more where that came from! Well, here we have it, don't we? Crooked government, dismantling of all constitutional rioghts, except for those in the authorities favor, and now, crooked cops.. using the legal system to portray the impression of legitimacy... Once a society gets all three of these, nothing less than all out civil war will return liberty. Honestly, how'd y'all let it get so bad? I'm not saying we don't have a problem in Canada, but so far , corruption isn't nearly at the levels it is across the border...

    For /. readers who have the complete Tom Baker Dr. Who episodes complete with PBS pledge breaks showing a much-younger you manning the phone bank, good luck finding a company that will copy those for you. They *might* copy the pledge breaks but not the Dr. Who.

    Well, it looks like a lot of Tom Baker Dr Who fans have gone the cheapo route.. I have heard ;-) that the copies on torrents aren't rips from DVD but all the PBS ones with bad edits , including about 240p quality. Just like it was when first aired! This time I'd recommend better to save up yer pennies and get the DVDs.. For the episodes that were shot on film (and quite a few were) it really does look a whole lot better..

    Good question. If us regular plebes obsess over it , is one thing, but when officials obsess, then is it time to worry?.Like Mt St Helens, It may be preceded by a noticeable quake, perhaps on the west coast. Check for missing pets. Like now. mine has never strayed afar for more than 2 hours, but now it's been 24 and missing. Others in the park I live in are having odd pet behavior too, and we live in SW Canada (same as the Pacific NW USA) Perhaps more of y'all keep your eyes out?

    Well, 'the cloud' considers "ISP speed throttling" to be an urban myth.. and connections never go down. Ever. Also, ISPs are 100% reliable and don't have connection issues either. Hardware issues? Naw, that's also an urban myth.. And after all your data is "yours".. even though it's on a hard drive that contains other people's stuff too. The authorities wouldn't touch your stuff if they had to confiscate the HD because of some other fella's confiscated data. I'm sure they'd carefully back it up first and inform you immediately. And Pigs have wings.

    So if you erase something on "the cloud" because it's embarrasing or whatever, you've also deleted all their backups of that material?

    Like me? Does anyone REALLY think that with corruption at the highest level since the implementation iof domestic police ever, that THEY aren't going to edit, or at least show only part of an encounter themselves?

    "Your Honor, there was a camera malfunction during the portion the officer allegedly shot the supposedly unarmed boy 26 times"

    "Your Honor, the memory chip in the officers camera was accidentally damaged by a richochet when the officer purportedly ripped the witnesses smartphone and shot it to bits"

    All the methane escaping from every single vent in the oceans, comes nowhere near the highly concentrated methane escaping from cows and pigs. A sealed cattle barn is a severe explosion hazard, for instance.. and the methane from cow poop and flatulence, here where I live, is sometimes so strong I can hardly breath. Coonsidering the poop, gas, Kuru, and poor quality protein that red meat (a.k.a. beef) contains, I'd be happy is all the steers except those needed to keep the cows happy, and half of all the cows, weren't returned by the aliens that keep abducting them. I don't thinbk cars are as bad offenders as cows. Remember that methane is 20 times as powerful a greenhouse gas as CO2.

    ...here we come. Just because it's distasteful (although likely faked anyways) whether it's posted shouldn't be decided by a "central comittee", such as in China. There's no difference between a "central comittee" and a "central board" such as Google has. What else will be pulled or held back? And will they tell us every time they restrict acess? If they don't we won't even know what's being blocked. How is this different than the Chinese "great firewall", except in amount of results being blocked? And if they do it here, what's to say they won't do it more and more? It's only a few executives at the top making all the decisions.. I think this is the thin end of a very wide wedge...

    Yeah, heck I remember when Discovery was actually science oriented..before the lowest common denominator "reality" rubbish. Just like the learning channel actually had learning oriented shows.. Aah.. but ratings quickly replaced content as the focus of the networks.. "sniff" ;-(

    But at the rate this is happening, the majority of a chip will have to be kept inactive at any given time, creating what Markov terms 'dark silicon.

    When it's believed that computers only use 10% of their silicon, imagine if we could use 100% of our processors' capacity at the same time!

    Every ten years I hear the same thing. "We have reached the linits of processor technology" I remember hearing it in 1994 upon the arrival of the pentium.. that the x86 processor was maxed out.. during 2004, when the next gen x86 chips arrived.. Now it.s 2014.. and it's the same tune again. Suuure. They'll find a breakthrough. Count on it.
