Japanese people like to own real physical copies of albums and videos..there are more rare CD albums in print in Japan than anywhere else in the world..
True.. Repubs don't advocate *no* taxes.. just taxes on the ultra wealthy.. (it's hamper business!") Never mind that the money is not even in circulatioon at all but bound up in offshore tax shelters.. and that helps business, just, er, how?
"Hell yeah.. it''s never catch on.. real men use CLI.."... Years before I ever even bothered to join/. I was still reading lots of issues, and even after win98 came out I STILL remember people saying that..
I'm pretty sure that trademark law hasn't changed that much.. perhaps in Germamy they still follow anal-retentive business practices, but in the rest of the world, a name of a business isn't considered to be infringing if the main business of the company is in a completely different field.. Hence.. "Apple" computer, and "Apple" records. The only reason there was ever a case of "two Apples" was because of Apple's entering the music industry (with iTunes), and, it was, I believe, settled in Apple's favor (Perhaps they settled out of court, I don't know).. In this case, Apple doesn't make jigsaw puzzles (perhaps they're worried about being considered a "gaming" company.. They shouldn't worry about ever being considered that;-) This knuckling over would never have happened with were Steve Jobs still in charge..
Bang on on all points.. The way the ultra-right are acting though, does seem to be different from the past.. The amount of vitriol being directed at Obama far exceeds the natural response to policies they dislike. This is clearly personal. Although I loath the terrible choices re the erosion of rights and freedoms that your President has continued to erode, policies that started with Bush, It is clear to me they are not bothered about the loss of these things, but rather it's something else.. I may disagree, but I don't *hate* him.. Those people clearly do...
WHat a ridiculous question.. Of course they do... In the beginning.. Once you reach a level of "state dependance" however, where you can't do it without, things change.. Programming on LSD though? Has anyone even *tried* it?
Watermarking might be able to identify the specific copy of a film or video, but there is no way that it can be used to prove *who* shared it. For that to be possible, every sale of a video would have to have a serial number, connected to the watermark, and the name and address of the video purchaser, plus a record of the serial number. When's the last time you had toallow your address to be recorded in order to purchase a video.. and as far as I know, individual DVD copies don't have serial numbers...FUD
Just unbelievable when anyone discusses global warming on/. all the naysayers come out and attack it.. as if it weren't proven that the earth has warmed up, they don't just debate the cause, but the very fact itself.. Which is not debatable but rather the global average increase has clearly been measured and is available to anyone who knows howe to use Google. In fact when it comes to warming, the whole soar system is warming up. Same with the fact that our oceans are becoming too acidic to support healthy fish stocks, which are very sensitive to PH.
Easily measured, and has been consistently..It's one thing to dabate the cause, but to deny the very measurements themselves is a bit like, despite the evidence, insisting we never went to the moon. Behavior I would have expected better of from techs..
This comment is a wellspring of information.. Sadly, by continually raising the "safe" level of radiation faster than the increase in measured levels, it would appear to the uninformed that things are getting better. They've been unable to raise those levels here in Canada, what with our slow bureaucracy, so they have simply taken all the fallout detectors offline instead.. thinking what the public doesn't know, won't hurt them (except the "them" in this case is the officials in charge)
Apparently Health Canada has a 404 on the page where it was mentioned, but here's an article about it before it happened:

How the heck did this ever get modded funny? It's completely true... and the claim itself is just as untrue now as it ever was.. I simply cannot see a time coming where everybody will be completely satisfied renting all their apps. People have always liked to *own* their possessions, and software also. Furthermore, nobody, at least yet, is being "forced" to use the "cloud", thankfully. Certainly I havent gone that direction, although *as an option* only, and not as the primary storage location for all your personal data, it's a perfectly valid one.. I remember M$ was trying to go in that direction almost 15 years ago, when they came out with "active desktop" (remember that?).. and we still have desktop computers.. Rather, I have noticed that it's not so much people *dropping* PCs for mobile devices, but rather people that would not normally ever have or use a PC, that use mobile. Africa is a very good example of that. My sister who is currently there now, mentioned to me that the majority of people that pick up email, write letters and texts, and play games etc. do it on their phones. People that would never consider buying a desktop otherwise.
So.. i see no real drop in the popularity of the PC, but rather, as a percentage of the total user base, it's simply gotten smaller, due to the explosive growth in users of "devices".
This is quite correct.. and, sorry to say, this is coming from a reluctant smoker.. After about 50, our ability to regenerate cellular damage declines drastically.. I can speak from personal experience.. If I thought smoking would kill me faster than the other issues I have, I probably would bite the bullett a little quicker.. although I AM going to soon quit, I would like it to be MY decision, not forced upon me by an amoral legislative body.. Furthermore, I think it is supremely immoral for society to encourage legislation banning smoking in the privacy of one's own residence (which appears to be the new norm) and yet gladly collect (massive) taxes from the sale of same. My mum always said it's one of the most serious moral violations to profit from other's suffering , but isn't that precisely what we as a society, that is utterly dependant on tax revenues from tobacco, doing?
I REALLY enjoyed reading all these answers.. and i firmly believe that you could learn more about software coding just reading this post than anywhere else in a day, even though he doesn't really cover the subject at all, but just by the way of looking at things, the way he does.. (like his preference for efficiency, to name one point). He has a really well ordered brain, IMHO.. Just my 2cents worth, here..;-)
Well, here's what I don't quite get. *Light* has mass, if even an infinitesimal amount (if it did not, it could not get trapped by a black hole) , and travels at the speed of light, so why isn't the mass of light infinitely huge?

He still refers to it as "our" company in interviews.. and that's not because he's a major shareholder, 'cuz he ain't, I don't think..
Is this one of the 76% that are made up? or is it one of the 65% that aren't? ;-)

Perhaps watching a few episodes of "Yes Minister" might help make the difference clearer.. ;-)

I live right here.. On Vancouver Island. I was up when it happened.. but never felt a thing. Really.

Not to worry.. the event happened several millions of years ago
Until we all have a society in which scientists being wrong when warning about disasters, is considered noble, then nobody will dare speak out...
Insane people drive Ferraris...
Actually, I haver been in several dusty environments, and I noticed a real slowdown of my computer as dust buildup occurred..
Hey I like technology as much as the next guy, but a scenario like this gives me chills down my spine
I wish I was as smart as Magnetar and able to make a buck off of the fraud by hedging against it.
Me too, if I could be sure it would only hurt the corrupt parties.. but sadly, that is never the case.. ;-(

The damage caused by smoking appears long after a soldier retires or..er.. is retired.. Early death is an occupational hazard of the job...
