    The biggest problem is that people want convenience

    This kind of thinking pisses me off. (Agent Smith voice) If only we didn't have this... problem... these... users... life would be so much easier!

    In your honor I'm gonna go and change a bunch of my online account passwords to simple English words. What's that sound I hear? Ah, it must be hackers beating down the doors to read my email. Maybe they will also get into my bank account and pay my bills or something.

    I think of it as "would it be reasonable to have this content in front of a family." Think grandma, aunts and kids visiting. Violence is borderline acceptable, but hardcore porn- wouldn't work.

    You're not alone, I'm the same way. It is so bad that I'm seriously considering building some timed interlock system where I would push a button and have the Internet down for X minutes, or a timed door lock that would keep me in a distraction-free room for enough time to get useful work done.

    The irony is I'm supposed to be doing work, and here I am designing a timed lock...

    Forget Light Peak, Intel has already demonstrated an on-chip CMOS laser and used it for optical links: press release here. I really don't know what the IBM guy meant with his claim.

    Yes, but efficient doesn't equal clean. Actually, not worrying about the dirty emissions is probably more efficient than trying to scrub them.

    I don't know, Intel is making money hand over fist selling Xeons used in data center blades. A 1k-core chip would fit in quite nicely there. As for the desktop good-enough stuff, that's what the Atoms are for ;)

    A hundred? I doubt it. It's not only about being smart. My experience with many Ivy leaguers is that they are not only smart, but also extremely motivated. That is why they are so rare- you might have a 1% chance to be either, but .01% to be both.

    Teslas are cool as hell, but they are way too small to be practical for my daily use.

    I'm gonna guess that the fuel saving would not be significant enough to offset the costs of the electric system.

    Also, there is a constrained version of the problem called Bitonic Tours which is solvable in poly time, which might match the flower scenario well.
