Except most programmers don't use a debugger. That makes an IDE less of value. I myself am proficient with both Eclipse/CDT as well as gdb but I have never met a programmer who used debuggers as extensively as myself.
I'm in the middle of putting together a machine for virtualization purposes and I can tell you, the more cores the better. Although I agree that in this case these cores are not really general purpose cores as we know them.

Who cares? Is something technically not right about the new TLDs? Or are you afraid someone else is making money off of it?
I am not afraid of those but what I don't get is: if.bank is created then why not.fiscal and.med(ical). Are banks the most important thing in a man his life?
CodeWeaversHas their own version of Wine but almost all changes are rolled back in the main tree. I bought version 2, and don't need the features of the new version 4.1, but if I understand you, it's perfectly fine for me to save on the measly $40 and pirate this product?
I'm working for a North-West European branch of a large multinational with HQ in the US. The general opinion here is that the game of politics is played by the Americans. When we are at work without them, we just do our jobs and if the project fails, it's the fault of the team and not one of its members. Any disagreements or irritations (which WILL come out when the going gets tough) are treated with extremely blunt honestness; first discussed in private to get the sharp edge off, then in the team.
Yes, that includes QA saying things to developers like "you don't even smoke-test your work and I'm NOT going to do that for you", or (developer to manager) "why do you ask with what I'm busy? You're the project manager".
Of course, you have to let some steam off once in a while by joking and horsing around.
Submitter says you would probably not see there at Walmart, but those ultra commercial companies are exactly the place I expect them. Those robots could recognize customers by their voice, fingerprint (blind people will touch them) or simply customer card. Them they can make all posts of suggestions.
"Our store brand of coffee is cheaper, sir" "Last time you had cheese on your list"
I can even come up with things lawmakers would think of, like forbidding Robby the Robot to suggest cigarettes or liquor.
Somewhat off topic, but which tools are better on windows? I have had problems with database development tools in the past, but I wonder what other people struggle with.
Well I don't blame you, I couldn't name one without googling either. However, I have seen lots of articles by Indians, for example on onjava.com or xml.com.
Imagine if the vast armies in Bangalore and Hyderabad get to know Linux and open source software in general, and all start scratching their personal itches. This could mean a giant boost for both existing and new open source projects.
if Microsoft made the perfect OS, they wouldn't have a business model selling updates
Although there's some truth in this, don't forget that developing good software takes time. I sometimes hear about our customers complaining, "why wasn't this feature there in the first place", and then development says "we didn't think people would find it so important" or "this feature kept dropping off the short list".
attack is only valid when you have several different versions
This raises an interesting question: what about versioned documents? They'd have to contain several large revisions, but this shouldn't be a problem when I think of the documents that some account managers create here.
What packages do your customers run that kernel tuning on a case-by-case basis is necessary?? Also, what kind of admins do these clients have? I've met quite a few knowledgable admins, but never one that felt the need to deviate from the parameter values mentioned in the manual that came with the db/appserver... That is, if they bothered to read it.
And besides, I don't really feel that the OS is very important on the decisionmaking level, let alone some obscure feature of something called a kernel.
I know it's just one line that was pushed to the next page, but doesn't anyone else find it funny that it's so easy to find a bug in the word in- and exports, even just a minor one?
Why hide your porn??! Oh come on now, you're trying to make us believe that other people visit your house? This is slashdot, man. You don't have to pretend...

Yah that stuff smells Danish PCs then craps all over the registry. Or /etc but only if you run the evil penguin OS.
You don't need any of it. Just work with a user account (not administrator/root), use firefox, thunderbird and don't install all that crapware.

Shit i can't read myself. Good observation, sorry.
Reading back the original post, I was indeed overly generalizing.
Either you can't read or this is a bad troll. I was not talking about blaming. I was talking about taking responsibility, preferably as a team.

I am an AI, with the white eyeballs with circuits in them and all. And I found the book disgusting, with all those slutty, naked pieces of code.
And besides, I don't really feel that the OS is very important on the decisionmaking level, let alone some obscure feature of something called a kernel.
Halleluja!

Native widgets are important but if OOo can't flawlessly import and export MS Office files them all it has is nice looks.
My nephew, also 4 yrs, points out company logos in the ads on the newspaper front page . Logos and icons for that matter are very powerful.
By the way, it's never smart to use your daughter's name as a password, but if it's the daughter herself doing the hacking, it's DEFINITELY a no-no!

I wouldn't mind one of these things in my laptop. Cheap and just fine if you only occasionally play a game.
