  1. I was actually thinking engineered neurons that could be wired into our existing nervous system and interface with electronics for things like enhanced memory and other prosthetics.

  5. There are a series of interactions with the Windows Security Center and other subsystems that are subject to frequent and last-minute change by Microsoft. This is likely what they are legitimately butt-hurt about.

    No, it's a good analogy, because basically the intent of saying "We shouldn't do anything because China and India aren't"

    Except we have strict laws all over our industry WRT pollution, so we ARE following some rules (taking trash to the landfill) they need to catch up on. Then, once they get there, we can talk about further mutual compliance. So no, we are not doing nothing, we are insisting they do what we are already doing before we further hobble ourselves.

    Bad analogy. If my neighbors threw their trash in the street, my solution would not be to pay a huge fine for all the trash I sent to the landfill. I would see what we could do to get them to use the landfill FIRST.

    Nuclear fission as an energy source. Eventually we will realize it's the only way forward and we will adopt it and perfect it and stop burning our plastic (er, I mean oil) for energy. We can keep denying this and put off the inevitable, or face the fact and start sooner. We need energy, period, and we're going to have it. Sooner we face that and then move on with the next step the better.

    Well I see (s)he fixed it now. I was sort of hoping I hadn't kept up and "a service of tweets" really was a freshly coined collective noun. Editor incompetence is a much less satisfying answer. But then I'm a fan of collective nouns, I think we should be actively inventing them.

  21. There's no reason to assume that. In fact in every simulation I'm aware of there are vast numbers of simplifying assumptions made because they don't matter (much) for the intended purpose, and that's the subset of simulations that are even trying to mimic our physical laws. The concept of pulling a typical CA (for instance) out of its world and creating it here in ours is meaningless.

    Well one of us seems to be descending into insults and appeals to imaginary invisible people, while the other is using facts and logic. I was old enough to vote for Reagan, by the way. Are you done being wrong or do you have more wrong to share? Or perhaps switch and have an actual logical argument?
