    Bugtraq is worth its weight in gold. I am responsible for a bunch of systems. If there is an exploit out there for software I am running I want it to be publicly posted for two reasons.

    1. Public posting of exploits puts pressure on vendors/maintainers to fix the problem. It has been demonstrated time and time again that vendors are more worried about making money that supplying secure software. If there is not a clear publically demonstrated threat they are not going to make the updates I need to secure my systems

    2. One I want to see it so I can evaluate if my systems are at risk. I am responsible for my network. If the buck stops with me only trust when I can verify. This allows me to sleep well at night.

    That is pretty sweet. There are a number of radio shows I would listen to if I could be at home for them, be awake for them, or remember when they are on.

    Tossing an fm card in an old box at home and scheduling some cron jobs is on my weekends to-do list. :)

    Why? Bececause he is right? Subistute "revolt" with "accountable democrate process for change" and it sounds much more practical.

    ICANN is a body designed to manafacture consent, as guided by "informed parties". Like the poster mentioned this is the same function as presidential elections. The results are supposed to be unifying, and the process is supposed to be percieved as sancrosact and not up for debate. The result is a pushed result not one built the population.

    "Trusted computing" is a control stuggle by our capitalist aristocracy to reign-in the development of communication and organization that is making them obsolete as computer tech aids in the development of more egalitarian control processes.

    That is part of the beauty of this. It is anti-noncorporate ownership of cinemas. It marginalizes businesses that are not big players, and creates more entry points and market control for the big players.

    Actually as far as I am concerened companies have no rights, particualrly not the rights of a person. People have rights, not organizational entities whose functional purpose is to accumulate power (money) at the expense of people. The fact that companies have bought themselves into the legal system is something that needs to be addresed

    No, I leave that to the professionals who get paid to do that. My point is that developing advanced physical population control tools is not why I pay taxes. I pay taxes to support institutions that work for the public good.

    After reading the article I am not sure what use this would be in a military to military confrontation. It does seem like it would be usefull to attack the public when they do things like excercise thier right to protest.

    As someone who had a shitty high school gpa but very high SAT/ACT scores I was pretty happy that college I went to looked at the scores. I did not have to play the good student game in high school or college and was allowed to enroll in the interesting classes I wanted to regardless. I know I got breaks due to it. Very efficient use of a few hours of my time.

    If you wish to opt out all you need is an application scheduled to rewite your locally stored personal data at set intervals or on a particular event. Just because you are asked ( and potentialy required) to submit data or have your browser negotiate info release does not mean you have to supply anyonw with accurate information.
