I get my news from a wide variety of places. Why lock into one source where you don't get the other side of a story. But the lemmings here don't want to hear that. ANYTHING the NY Times, Wash Post, etc.. puts out is FACT - including their VERY left leaning editorial pages.
WE should gladly accept updated that breaks critical software whenever M$ wants. I mean, why should consumers want to use the tool(computer and OS) instead of just sitting there looking at the pretty desktop.
You forgot the biggest point/issue/problem - The Ads are defined in tags within the media itself. TIVO is basically saying - advertizers go crazy. If you pay close attention to commercial blocks, you will realize the commercials for the network you are watching usually are the last before the show is back on. So a network simply puts the end tag 5 seconds into the show. You then force the folks to hit "10 seconds back" and you get to see the last 5 seconds of every commercial for that network.
You're obvious defense will be - use the 30 second skip. Well, there are a couple problems with that - first, you are forcing a rather large population of TIVO users to use something they have choosen not to do on purpose(that's not a good move). Secondly, the 30 second skip is very easy to get around by making sure the last 5 seconds of the network ad runs 5 seconds past a 30 second skip.
TIVO has basically appointed the rats in charge of the TIVO cheese factory. Expect MANY problems as these popup ads bleed into regular programming so people can't tell when the commercial ends and hte program returns. And TIVO will simply reply - It's not our fault, there must have been a problem with the tag/network/etc...
You might as well ban FTP and HTTP traffic, as the materials I download can be legally acquired through those protocols as well.
Their response would most likely be something like this - Thanks for you suggestion. We will now be banning the use of FTP and HTTP based on your suggestion. We will make sure to supply your contact information to anyone concerned about our new policy.
Let me get this straight. You are complaining about DS9 AND B5 as NOT having "multi-episode parallel plot arcs"? Sorry, but that is what B5 was. DS9 has several plot arcs that lasted many episodes.
DS9 and B5 were about outposts on the fringe of known space/territory where help isn't coming anytime soon - You're on your own. Their "missions" weren't to go out and seek new life, blah blah blah. Their mission was to stay alive. That is a lot more interesting to me than crappy arse holodeck, and time travel garbage that were forced on us time after time after time after...
... But I don't have too many NON user-to-user conversations using IM. So am I free to say and do anything(talking to another on IM that is) without it ever coming back to haunt me?
