Hear hear.. and this is really shameful. A while back we made the switch from IP-based to name-based virtual hosts for most of our webservers, in order to free up addresses (we have accessibility requirements which until then had required us to stick with a pretty strict HTTP/1.0 compliance, which doesn't support name-based vhosts, although most browsers extend the 1.0 spec to include the Host: header) I think we had issues for something like two weeks before all the various DNS servers got their shit in gear What's the point of having TTL's if you're going to have idiots ignoring them willy-nilly?
Argh... I read Banks' Use of Weapons and found it a pretty good read, the ending was a surprise... but then I read some rave reviews about Banks (mostly here, I think) and picked up Excession, and can't get more than 50 pages into it! Does it just rank low on his scale, or are there a couple of novels before this I should read for scene-setting? Glad to know I wasn't the only one that didn't dig Excession, though:-)
Pratchett, Terry
The Discworld Series, mainly... great stories, really funny, the only thing I really have an issue with is how some of his books seem to finish the story about 100 pages from the end. But very worthwhile reads.
Unfortunately, no, as far as I know. And Dell has the unfortunate habit of fixing mobo's to the case with plastic snaps, which you have to break to remove the motherboard, hence, upgrading past fastest CPU/memory for your board is impractical.
Hehe... when looking at building my machine, I picked a fairly pricy case, but one of the big features I was looking for was, you guessed it, rounded edges. You have to figure that the case will outlast most of the other components inside, so it's worth the extra bucks to buy one that doesn't leave your hand looking like you played roman knuckles with Freddy Krueger.:-P
Why not? It worked for McD's, Starbucks, and just about every franchise chain out there... people don't care if big corporations give them shitty quality stuff, as long as it's the same shitty quality stuff wherever you go.
Right now just about every FPS out there plays off of the Quake 3 or the Lithtech engine, the only difference is they pay royalties to ID or Sierra. Very few companies use their own original content.
Wrong. You're confusing content and delivery mechanism... it's like calling Van Gogh a rip off of Rembrandt because he used oil paints and canvas. Jedi Knight II uses the Quake3 engine to deliver the content. All the textures, models, maps, sounds, scripts (most likely), were written by the developers for LucasArts. Also, they don't generally pay royalties, they pay license fees. Also, Half-Life doesn't use the LithTech engine, but rather a heavily modified Quake 1 Engine.
To your 8 little words, I counter with four... "My house, my rules." Irrespective of whether or not ShowEQ is used for legitimate purposes or not, Sony has the right to decide whether or not you can play on their servers or not. They're not stopping you from making any modifications to their product after purachse... merely setting rules and conditions for play on their servers... which to me is no more unreasonable than a restaurant bearing a "No shirt, no shoes, no service" placard.

Ahh, what a few simple lessons is basic high-school level physics wouldn't do for american consumer cluefulness.
* - NJ pop. density = 1,134.5 people per sq mi. = 2938 people per sq km.
Psst... How is it that NJ has a population of 1,134.5 people per square mile, but a population of 2938 people per.6 square miles? (1 km^2 =~.6 mi^2) And what does the mob get out of it?;-)
SFC is supposedly moving away from "space-based" shows and heading more toward the "paranormal," in keeping with the latest fads/trends in the TV people are watching. Which makes you wonder why they even bother calling themselves "sci-fi," but there you go.
I was going to say exactly that... if they're going to paranormal, shouldn't they be called the frickin' Miss Cleo network or some shit?
Why, oh why, do people insist on beliving this capitalist myth? The technology that comes to dominate a market very rarely has anything to do with it's quality... closer to the truth is the service that markets itself the best will win out.
From the link: The lottery is not only a tax on people who don't understand math; it is an unfair and unjust tax. Didn't we have the American Revolution over taxes like that?
Uhhh, firstly, until the government requires that you buy lottery tickets, it's not really a tax, it's just you being stupid and shoveling money out of the window. Secondly, large-scale operations such as state lotteries have no need to "rig" their drawings... most people who think these deals are rigged are just don't understand probability math. *shrug*
Wait... you mean, if I bankrupt my company, they'll pay me more? Shit, and here I've been busting my ass all this time to keep us out of the red... those kooky business guys, what will they think of next?

It's the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, but Schrodinger formulated the cat-in-the-box theory based on Heisenberg's theories.
Hehe... I don't think that'll be an issue, they'll get free hosting from f**kedcompany soon enough :-)

My bad, I was smoking some crack and using 0.8km/mile instead of 0.62. :-P
