The rounded corners on the front page are missing. Seems like change for the sake of change again. I don't even mind seeing this site worsening anymore. I look at it in a sarcastic and amused way. They still haven't figured out the obvious way to monetize, that is, we'd be all happy to pay a subscription fee to access the comments section.
You cannot produce professional music on any iPad. All of the external hardware are toys and the music apps are nothing but gimmick.
That's not true. At least for the older iPad with the dock connector, you can connect any MIDI device through the Camera Connection Kit and then play very nice synthesizers like the Moog Animoog or Korg iMS-20. And if the internal headphone out isn't enough, you can connect USB class compliant audio interfaces to get super pristine audio output, too.
There's way more options, MIDI over Bluetooth LE, on the new iOS 9 there'll be options to route sound directly to a Mac and much more.
In fact, for a long time, iOS was the only mobile OS that allowed any meaningful interactive audio because Android had problems with the input delay.
But I'm happy to hear that the workflow you're describing (i.e. running full blown desktop apps) is possible on the Surface 3! It's like a thin laptop with touchscreen and for this interface situation the touch is very useful!
So much of university learning in Germany and France is centered around drill*.
No wonder that people with different learning styles can have problems in this format. Those are the ones more likely to smoke weed, imo.
The authors take "passing courses" as a metric for success. But they fail to realize that there are many previously A grade students who in research positions suddenly don't know what to do since they never developed a proper creativity together with a longing to explore.
This whole mentality of "let's grow our economy by pushing people to what we think is good for growing our economy" is a big stupid fad and will lead to nothing but short-term sucess and long-term mediocrity of failure.

It seems to me only logical that the entity that commissioned the work, invested the resources and made it happen ie the company should own the patent.
What you're proposing sounds like zero incentive to invent while being employed. Doesn't make much sense psychologically.
$8 Million is quite low if you know what this guy's invention stimulated across various fields
I think just is if one agrees with the employer about a certain split ratio when signing for the job. It seems that here in Germany while employed at a university the inventor is entitled to 30% of the revenue achieved by commercialization.
This podcast seems to be about tDCS, while Thync is appearantly "using transcranial pulsed ultrasound (tPU), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and other transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) methods".
But I've to admit that less change might be better, like just going for a walk. To that you can stick.
This workout I only recommend to folks who want to be sportive at a certain level and work for it.
Otherwise the above mentioned tips, like cycling are of more relevance.
I lol'd because I also got a 7 km bike commute but i do it in 30 minutes instead of 20, then I don't need to shower afterwards;-)
But no offense, I know some people tend to sweat more and probably it's much warmer where you live.
What I also always find important is to take the nice tracks and if possible try to omit the crowded roads.
One really shouldn't underestimate how much nicer and healthier (!!!) it is to go a little extra in order to be able to ride through a park or along a river, instead of breathing the exhaust fumes on the road. I hope in the future air of a certain quality will be seen as a right of the cyclists.
It's a workout programme you can do at home with only a few tools (pull up bar and resistance bands mostly).
Each workout is of fixed length, you let it run and you can see the time on a progress bar also. It's fun, though I've to admit I don't do it as often as intended, but still, I like it because I save all the time and hassle and money going to a gym.
great insight! I mean, not that it surprises me, but it's nice to once in a while read something about Breaking Bad that understands it how I see it - except that I couldn't have written it that clearly.
Regarding the current situation this seems like a dumb move.
A good deal of the fun part of youtube comes from the comments and a lot of people don't want to engange in some minor trolling or posting funny comments with their real name.
Of course there are a lot of really offensive comments and stupid discussions also, but what I see as a result of anonymous names are especially the top rated funny comments you often come across.
But I hate the App Store. I doesn't help you separate the wheat from the chaff.
There are some good apps that don't phone home at all, but the norm is to at least contact hockeyapp or another usage-info-collector.
That's why I use Firewall IP.
Exactly. Wasn't there an article on slashdot some time ago where somebody showed how much money from the Gates Foundation was almost wasted by investing it in an inefficient way into the amercian school system!? It was a lot of money.
I don't play much, if so then mostly shooters. RAGE was by far the best game I've played since a long time.
I liked it much more then Half-Life 2. It made me realize why I prefer id software to valve: there's some crazyness to it that makes titles like Half-Like 2 appear almost sterile in comparison. In RAGE, the movements of the muties for example, the 'british' bandits and all this stuff must have been designed by people with really cool phantasy and I appreciate that.
.. I'd actually welcome something as drastic as preventing german visitors access to youtube.
Otherwise the populace will never get that GEMA is to be removed ASAP.
But Google will just go least resistance with most revenue and bow.
Damn, I hate how little political well doing is done by the powerful Google.
Every time I see a map rendered with different colors and a different style as Google Maps I immediately feel how much I prefer the Google Maps style.
Is it only me or is the rendering really that refined that it's just so much easier to spot things and therefore feels better?
But often surveys ask if you
.. use it regularly
.. use it rarely
.. never use it
Did you even read the articles that you've linked to?
exactly! The first one links to a Reddit thread where everything seems to be listed.
What exactly did Mayer do succesfully in leading Yahoo? I'm just curious since I don't use any of their services and haven't heard of them lately.

tDCS might be worth trying. e.g. http://www.reddit.com/r/tdcs
I don't need pictures when there's no additional information in them that's worth the screen space you stupid fucking idiots.

interesting thoughts! thanks for sharing

Very useful, thanks!
