square 1:...u insert this smart card and then Windows goes "Windows needs to be restarted for your hardware to work properly. Please remove the smartcard and click OK to restart"..restart...back to square 1.
I've installed FC3 from CDs. It's great and quite polished, I must say. I also liked the feature that allows you to test your CDs before you use them to install Fedora - prevents those incomplete-due-to-corrupt-cds installs.
However, now that I have installed off CDs, is there a way to get the Add/Remove programs application to either use the ISO images or better still a mirror as a source for packages?
Yeah, I know about command line yum, but how do I get the GUI based Add/Remove programs app to use the ISO images? It's kinda irritating switching CDs back and forth when installing something because of the dependencies involved.
...and it will run Windows Media Player...and MS Outlook...and Internet Explorer...and will change your start page...and will install Gator and loads of spyware...and give you a million popups and viruses
before it's finished startup.
But then, it's a supercomputer! So it will then pop-up a message apologizing for the mess and asking for one chance to correct itself. When you click ok, it will close the pop-ups, clean the viruses, get rid of Outlook and then download and install Firefox and Thunderbird:)...and finally, after 2 weeks without a single pop-up, it will play ONE song "That's the way, aha, aha, I like it!"...and then you'd go "Aha! Aha!:)"

So now Phil doesn't have a cat in his garden, but he has to search in the bushes for the bullets and he likes that:)
Amazing.
Hehe :) Firefox slashdotted slashdot's RSS :)

HEHEE...
Think about it... TONS of geeks downloading Firefox. Each copy of Firefox has a live bookmark pointing to slashdot. Slashdot's RSS news feed get's slashdotted and Cmdr. Taco goes nuts:) Finally, this is what happened:)
I really wonder what the present download count is!
Yeah, burn out of control.....and considering they will have that bonfire at someone's hqs... WOW.......also, u think we could schedule that bonfire on the 4th of July too ?:)
I fully agree. I guess a similar comparison would be:
If Linus were to write Linux 1.0 today and he asked about it on Slashdot, what answers would you give? Pretty much the same as you're giving right now, I expect.
The point is that right now, you have no idea how they will be able to compete, if at all. Big deal. If it works out, it will take on a life of it's own - like Linux has. This is phase 1. Let's give them the support they need. So many times people have wished and wished that NVIDIA release the source of their drivers. Well, here's a company that is opening the entire card.
What I say is, tell them they will have our support. Forget about games. Let them run on NVIDIA and ATI for a little while. Let's get together and develop this card to do some really amazing 2D stuff atleast.
I mean, what about giving this card networking functionality? We just had a discussion about VNC the other day, right? What if this card could take care of most of it in hardware?
=> Encrypted communications using GPG. => Encrypted VoIP using GPG
wouldn't that make it a LOT more difficult for echelon to crack? They'll have to first crack the encryption.
We need some kind of open-source organization that concentrates on safe-guarding privacy and that helps in the development of such tools and their widesperead adoption.
See, the thing with OSS is that it can be used to overcome tyrannical elements - MS is one...maybe invasion of privacy is another? What do you think?
I mean, if this could be done on a large scale with network communication secured by default, with VOIP secured by default, with email encrypted by default, wouldn't that significantly reduce the effectiveness of Echelon? Wouldn't it also result in more fairplay all around?
Another example of MS copying *nix and the result...
They take WindowMaker's paperclip, give it eyes and eyebrows, make it unwind and come up with really irritating stuff at all the wrong times...and worst of all, it's naked!
They have actually put up a downloadable CSV of the results for us techies: http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/linu x/gpu_roun dup/fps.csv
Now that's really nice. If they would make this a regular feature, it would enable regular readers of anandtech to stock up on CSVs of hardware they might want to buy in the future. if any of you AnandTech chaps are reading this, Excellent idea guys! keep it up.
The rest of the world knew that Iraq had no WMDs. Everyone knew it was a "war to boost the economy". Nobody did anything. Why didn't America know? Ask your media that question and ask yourselves how much international news you actually listen to? Ask yourselves why.
Then you'll see why it isn't surprising. It is always easier for a government to go in for the wrong reasons and explain later, just like it's easier for us to do something we've set our minds on and explain later.
Look at the U.S's foreign policy from the outside (try some independent and known-to-be-unbiased news agencies for a change) and you'll see the difference.
For IE, it's in the hands of the web developers. For office stuff, I think it will give companies an "excuse" to adopt OpenOffice on a wider scale and allow them to formally use OpenOffice. Since it will become a standard, that also means that while MSOffice might not use that format, they will have to offer import/export support for that standard, which they don't currently do. I think this is just what's needed. Given the increased use of Linux as a development platform, a lot of documentation will need to be written about many Open Source APIs et al and an Office suite that can work cross platform is what many companies will be forced to look at in the near future. What I'd really like to see though, is the various Linux Office suites adopt this as the default standard. This would give users a LOT of choice without sacrificing on portability. Ofcourse, this would be like the holy grail - very very hard to achieve. Also, what I'm most bothered about now is that the best thing MSOffice can do is to develop a Linux version. This will be the worst thing from an OSS standpoint and will effectively nullify the standard - ask yourself this - if you have a document to deliver in a few days to some customers who use Windows, and a Linux version of MSOffice is available, would you even CONSIDER using any other office suite? The good thing from all this though, is that no matter what, this WILL result in a large increase of exposure to Linux.

Anyone?
errr...coz that's the minimum system spec for Longhorn?
:)
don't ask me whose longhorn tho hehe

...but I bet the HR depts would love it :)
Reason being that it would survive uninstalls/re-installs. It would also automatically be ported during upgrades.
Basically, extension = less hassle for the non-admin user = less hassle for the majority of the population.
... in the same way as some posionous bacterial cell division process does, wouldn't u say?

doh!
It's not a twist in the fabric of space. It's a hole in the canvas of windows.
