Yeah, it takes some time. I just start the compile process before I leave for the office. My compile script shuts down the PC when it's done. By the time I'm back, it's done. Simple. No time wasted. It could take 8 minutes or 8 hours - no matter to me coz I'm not using the machine at the time - no slowdown noticed.

  8. What about composer & calendar tho? on Planning For Mozilla 2.0 · · Score: 1

Or just composer and the browser? Perfectly standards compliant and fast. Add some good CSS and template support to Composer with some basic site management, make it a true visual editor and suddenly mozilla doesn't go away so easily.

Oh, but if you're going to keep the e-mail client, could you please include the option to re-write mail headers or to pipe the mail through another program or even to re-direct/forward the mail automatically? These are important functions for e-mail and neither mozilla's email nor Thunderbird have them.

To keep it simple, here's what you need in 2.0 - LOTS of refinement. It needs to look like it's good to your average Joe Blow. It needs to load fast and just do what it's supposed to without crashing. Wouldn't help if it looked good too - a lot of artists are already helping a lot on that front.

For the record, I use Thunderbird and Firefox.

...and $100 is DEFINITELY NOT 1 month's pay for an architect. Why, fresh B.E.s start off at a minimum of around $400 a month. Architects make a lot more. The average salary here is above $1000 a month for a moderately experienced professional. So I'll take it you meant 1000 and not 100.

Just to give you an idea of the living expenses, if you eat out every day, food can cost you between Rs. 100-300 a day in a good restaurant in the famous city of Bangalore - I'm not talking fastfood :) Apartment rentals start at around Rs.6000 a month. Movie tickets are around Rs. 150.

To put the "broadband" rates here in perspective, the going rate now is about Rs.800 (less than $20) for a 256kbps connection with about a 500 MB traffic limit. So a 100 bucks for 2Mbps is an excellent deal.

Splint is already installed. What I would like to do is to show the tool to those that are interested, give them a short lesson on it and then leave them to their own devices and let their curiosity make them learn.

    1) Internet browsing at home/office
    2) Multimedia at home
    3) Office work, presentations
    4) Small time and educational games in schools

Now, if we had an open source card that could take care of all the overhead processing that today's desktop eye candy requires and then some, you've just got yourself a solution to this problem:

"I'm your average joe blow. I do not know what XFree86 is. I do not know what a driver is and I don't want to. I want it to work, I want it to work well and I want it to look good."

You've just cleared away 90% of that market's concerns about a video card that just works. Since it's open source, it's cheap. Since it's open source, it'll be used in universities. Since it's open source, there will be an expanding knowledge base for it.

Forget high end games. That will come in time. Target desktop eye-candy - great looking shadows, transparency, 3D Desktops, god knows what else. Target an interface BETTER than the Mac. Heck, TARGET SVG implementation! Use this to give our community artists free reign with their themes. I think there's some VERY serious potential here.
