...but eOne doesn't look much like an iMac at all. It's way more boxy, different lines. I can't see myself confusing them.

But you're a slashdot reader, and know better. As an example, a few weeks ago, there was a big insert in the paper with this eMachines system on it. The price was $400 (w/ internet access), and the first thing my roomate (who is just your average joe) says is, "Whoa, and iMac for $400! I may have to go get one of those". Of course, I straightened him out on the spot, but it just goes to show that the average person IS confused. Had I not said something, I almost guarentee he'd be down at Best Buy looking at it.

I'm forgetting my physics, but is that free fall speed? If you dropped 300 feet, would you reach 92 mph? I ask because the best rollercoasters are the ones that just let you drop and don't force you down at a faster rate. Freefall always gives you that "stomach in your throught" feeling, whereas being rocketed down and incline simply feels like going really fast. I have to admit though, those are impressive numbers.

My best friend just graduated from DigiPen in Vancouver a few months ago. His was the last class from the Vancouver campus, and now the school has moved to Seattle. They're taking more students (it was only 60, now it's way more) and it's a 4 year school instead of the 2 year school it used to be. It is very hard to get into, and the classes take up just about all of your time. Classes are 6 days a week (I believe) and it's pretty typical to be doing work for 12 hours every day of the week (that is if you want to do well at all). From what my friend says, the school taught him a lot, but some of the teachers were downright pathetic, and the head of the whole thing is a real dick, only in it for the money, not the education. Regardless, he got a pretty swank job at Black Ops in Santa Monica, so I suppose he did learn something. ;)

  8. Re:Force Sony's DVD movie support hand? on New Nintendo System to use PowerPC · · Score: 1

Nintendo would be stupid to not add DVD player support. While Sony may feel that adding this support to PSX2 would take away from their other DVD player sales, Nintendo has no such worry. Nintendo needs something big to get back in the race (Sony has quite the advantage right now) and "one-upping" them with the DVD player thing could be a good way to kick Sony in the ass.

    The narration was so cheesy!

My guess is that these commercials aren't for the die hard Star Wars fan, but rather, for the every day American. The Qui-Gon one is probably most suited to Sci-Fi fans. The Anikin one was suited to the kids, and the Shmi one to all the soccer-moms. I can see the Shmi one being played durring Oprah. I'd bet they're trying to reach the biggest audience, and I'd bet the shows that you'd see these commecials with would reflect that.

  10. Guns on Why Kids Kill · · Score: 1

Banning guns would not have stopped this from happening. The fact is, just because it would be illegal, doesn't mean they couldn't get guns. Pot is illegal to posses, and look how easy it is to get that. If someone wants to kill, they will find a gun, especially people as screwed up as these two kids were. I honestly think that prevention starts at home. I read a good quote in a newspaper recently. It said "Kids who love and who are loved do not murder". Love is taught, but so is hate. I'd be willing to bet that if the parents of these two were involved in their life in a loving way from day one, none of this would have happened.

Still, I can't see it being software emulation. That would mean that you'd have to have a separate CD with an emulator on it to load into the PSX 2 and then put your original PSX1 disc in and play. And of course this isn't how it works. You just pop in your old PS disc and it works like the PS 1 does. Thus, unless there is some disk drive in the PS2 with the emulation software on it (which there isn't), all of the calcs must be done in the hardware on the new system.

Did you read the specs? First of all it does not emulate the original PSX in software. It has a separate I/O controller on board to do it in hardware. Also, the old PSX 1 games will not be enhanced in any way. They'll play like they do now on the new system. They're shooting for 100% compatability, not 110% or 95%.

The activities, the organizations, and just the overal opportunity that exists at a college is amazing. It's about living with people who are all there for similar reasons, yet are all very different. It's about taking an idea and doing something with it, be it starting a new social organization, working with a prof on some hot new research, or just learning something on your own because you're interested in it. But all along the way you meet people, and you learn how to interact with people who live grew up 10 miles away, or 10,000 miles away. This in itself is just as challenging as any class one can take. And in many ways it can be much more rewarding.
