I think the subversive power of having Google (even censored) is greater than the other option which is no Google at all.
Of course it all depends on how cooperative Google is with ye ol thought police. If they build interfaces which let them track individual users then they can certainly be considered evil. If, on the other hand, they hand over zillions of terabytes of interwoven binary data and tell the chinese police to have fun searching it then they might still be on the borderline.
In any event there are different levels of cooperation.
It was easier for me to setup XSP and Mono than Tomcat and Struts/Java etc. It might be because XSP/Mono is still relatively immature compared to the bevy o' java frameworks we have to choose from. But sometimes having too many choices wastes lots of time for us newbies. Makes it hard to choose the best solution and causes confusion etc. Here is the Ajax style Japanese/English dictionary site I'm building with it.
On the other hand, Eclipse is way beyond Visual Studio right now and it makes devel with Java almost fun.
I blatantly plug POPjisyo all the time. It provides pop-up hints for reading Chinese and Japanese and allows you to play a simple matching game over the contents of sites you surf. So you can read something of interest to you and then practice with the same words.
You certainly don't need to leave your house to spend money...
Which is where "rent-an-activist.com" comes into play. For $50 USD you can rent an activist to protest in front of any building with a sign of your choosing. Just upload a pdf of your sign and it will be printed to specification....
Pictures of your activist in action will be provided... +$50 for random insults. +$100 for spray paint.
As soon as most people can separate opinion from "the news"...
I think a good start would be filtering stuff titled "Editorial" and "Op-ed" at least on the English sites. There should be some easy keywords and such they could filter on... with the number of PhDs they've got, should be no prob.
Then there is the issue of mangled reuters stories on chinese sites designated "English News"... "IBM creates fastest super model in the world" -Xinhua
What's the deal with that? How about a pass through the google grammar/spelling checker too... before deciding rankings.
I hate clicking on an interesting headline only to find out it's someone's diatribe attack monkey troll article.
No, the difference is Republicans like ad hominem attacks, what's wrong with you?

Shouldn't there be some kind of IQ test for marketing people too?

Actually I think CherryPy and Zope have been around a while before Ruby on Rails. And speed wise Python kicks Ruby's ass for now.
And actually I don't know of any java frameworks that don't require tons o' xml flinging to get up and running. Please feel free to enlighten me.
Google should just delete China from their index! That'll show em!
Who's so fat?
(bad joke... sorry)

Thank you.
Any comparisons to Hibernate stacks, Struts, Zope3, CherryPy etc?

I'm just glad they got some shots of the About Box and Quick Reference screens.
I never touch programs that don't have a solid about box design.
Never underestimate the power of dancing blue freaks. I would point out that Apple has put them to good use. Maybe synced to some better music though.
Maybe AMD should have some dancing green freaks for step "3." instead of word of mouth.
Or maybe the phone companies would rather make money by restricting the handset to only use pay services?
The top 10 ring tone services have about 800,000-1million subscribers, at $3 a month each or so that's pretty big business (at least in japan).
