Imagine if all the geeks of the world were able to Buy a PS3 and have a full dev environment, reboot *and* play the latest games, etc....
We think Linux Nirvana; Sony should think $$$.
If the PS3 were all of our next workstations, that would rock. It would Rock for IBM and pals too.
Only thing that would have me concerned is the relatively low resolution.. but hey.
IBM/Toshiba/Sony should go out of their way to build a Linux distro + the graphics drivers and we would all be very happy clams. Except, say, Apple. Microsoft....
Yup, you hit the nail on the head. The first state that puts weapons in space will feel the wrath of the world. The second, third, fourth, etc will have no such restrictions. When the sky gets full of shiny objects in the night sky, people will look back at this winning idea and shake their heads. Nukes are 40s technology and look at the mess it is. Space is a 60s technology. Same mess, two decade lag. If this gets passed North Korea and her ilk will be working on this and selling to the highest bidder, so go right ahead Einstein.
Anyone know if Sony will allow viewing of HD content on DVI only TVs?
I know there are HDMI->DVI adaptors; I am interested in whether Sony will downgrade the signal or have some content/copy restriction on those sets with "merely" DVI.
If I recall there is some sort of content restriction on many DVI sets too....
You forgot that Canada can increase spending from it's regular buget SURPLUSES (What 10 years now?) to increase spending on health care. The US spends more government money on HC than Canada does per capita. Too bad Medicare is *still* going bankrupt eh?
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1753 "per capita health spending in the U.S. is more than twice as high: $4,000 last year, compared with $1,800 in Canada."
So Canada increases spending on medicare by say C$1Billion....this year. http://subscript.bna.com/SAMPLES/hcp.nsf/0/ c4a2808 945556ed085256e63007d87be?OpenDocument
"The federal government will commit more than C$1 billion ($760 million) toward increased health care spending in fiscal 2004-2005,.."
Past years too.
"The government's 2003 budget increased health care spending by C$34.8 billion ($26.4 billion) over five years, and Prime Minister Paul Martin confirmed only a few weeks ago an additional C$2 billion ($1.5 billion) payment to provincial governments to cover rising health care costs, Goodale said in the House of Commons in delivering the government's budget for fiscal 2004-2005. That brings federal cash transfers to provinces and territories for health care and social programs to C$28.1 billion ($21.1 billion) in 2007-2008, he said."
Sure, we Canucks held back on spending like you folks should have, but at least we have some room to manuver. That Social Security deal is a trial baloon for Medicare's privatization.. That is scary.
Canadians go to the US for quick and good healthcare, true. That is changing: HC is a priority and we budget to pay for it. Americans might be going to Canada as economic migrants if things continue as they are.
Lived in the US for 4 years now. Trust me, there are many more crack-pots here than in Canada. Per-capita. Believe it. The macro-insanity seen at the country level is, I suspect, a direct result of the micro-insanity at the individual level. Don't get me wrong. I've met "The world bank is an insiduous organization designed to track people via secret IDs in money" types in Canada too. But never so many that "don't trust government" yet believe every word their government says. Many more who think that government is hopelessly inept, yet for some reason, also believe that the military is somehow exempt from that same belief.
Also, the reason the US's dirty laundry is closely examined is that it is often more open, but it also can affect legions people in other countries. Got Oil? Canada's major quirks are taxing CDRWs and things like that. No comparison really.
I think Microsoft will buy Apple and "Mapple" will then migrate OSX to cell. Linux will be the 1st to be ported to run on the cell (if not already) as a template; OSX being a *NIX clone that already runs on PPC will be quick to port. That way Mapple sells plenty of Office, OSX, and Mapple Cell workstations because the Cell will be great for song and dance applications, which Mapple folks love.
Wajja think? 8 ) Think different! Bwa ha ha ha! -b
Seriously, though, Apple should move to cell. Out of order execution may not mean so much with a honkin compiler and all those wee "processor helpers." (Ha! Proccessor Helper.)
but until then he hasn't done anything wrong legally.
Umm.... There was the whole attack-another-country-without-prevocation thingy. There was no security council resolution that said "by any means necessary". There was only "serious consequences" which the UN uses to describe a plague of locusts 'n stuff.
This is a clear violation of int'l law, with 30K+ people killed and possibly a mondo-sized Lebanon to come.
You forgot, Mr. B also said: It's a Tough Job. It's a Tough Job. It's a Tough Job. It's a Tough Job. It's a Tough Job. For variety, he also said "they're doing a tough job." Not bad for someone who's had such a cushy life.
On reflection, can you say "Mini-Me"? His stature reminded me of Mini-me. I think that's funny.
I second that. IPCop is a very nice package.

The senate was supposed to be a "sober second opinion" where folks could look at legislation with out being swayed by the trends of the day.
Now it is sometimes a dumping ground for the loyal...
Though I see General Delaire (Sp?) is there now, so he gets my "vote" anyway.

i86Pod, i86Book, i86Sight.
One person year to create a GPL Exchange adaptor, so we can have Windoze free, free office software.....
One person year to work on Kolab or Open Exchange (or another) simplify the installation of these products...
Imagine what that would do for all of open source????
Cheers,

Clever! : )

I owned MS Word V. 1.0.
Down hill ever since.

Where would the police be then?

Sony should be very happy about it.

"shows that are directed at an above average IQ listener"
I humbly disagree. Consider their market. ; )

Hmmm... There are many Canucks down here already. All we have to do is remember not to say "abooot" and we're golden..

I don't believe Canadian subsidiaries of US companies are allowed to sell to Cuba either. The parent company just gets in trouble.

I never understood why this is not illegal. Is preventing benchmarks not a restriction on trade?
Imagine if the automobile industry did it?

They don't want people to buy their cameras. After research, I bought a Canon.
Cheers,

b/c they believe they can purchase the "birds" at lower costs from creditors looking to get some of their money back.

fair comment.

An American friend of mine puts it differently:
"You have the freedom so say what you want, but don't think that there aren't consequences."
I haven't pressed the point.

Of the Axis of Evil, N Korea has nukes, Iran has nukes, Iraq has no nukes, and was invaded.
So what's a country to do now? Build nukes!
