Personally I don't worry, because money is only used because people assign value to it. People can just as easily assign value to paper without RFID tags, or little glass beads. In the end people that want to make anonymous transactions will.

I don't know. I personally dislike optical mice. I have a nasty habit of turning my mouse [as it will be detected as minute movement in one direction or another depending on which side the mouse rollers is on] and lifting the mouse up occasionally to reorient it. Optical mice don't like that much.

Furthermore I don't find optical mice to be as responsive or as sensitive as a good ball mouse. I have a razer boomslang [www.razerzone.com] and they are exceptional mice once you get used to their absurd sensitivity at the desktop.

Note that all of this is for gaming only. Optical mice are certainly snazzy for desktop use and technologically are far advanced. Just like LCDs are a big jump over CRT, but... not for what I use them for...

As long as you don't actually install anything you should be fine. For those of you that are more paranoid [and you probably should be] set your browser to prompt you about cookies [which the underdogs' ads create tons of] and to prompt you about popups [for those of you/us with IE, ask google about nopopie; it works okay]

And all of the software listed for download on the site is pretty much abandoned, and they're [actually there's just one woman running the site iirc...] very good about pulling things down if they're not supposed to be there.

I've also used teamspeak with my tribes 2... tribe, and it is okay. Works like it's supposed to though I wish it could/would do proper adjustment of volume depending on who's speaking.

Often times a few people cannot be heard properly. IMO the best use of it is for communication in case someone gets dropped from the game. Otherwise the ingame voice chat it good enough. And indeed imo the tribes voicechat [also in NWN iirc] is one of the absolute best methods of communication. A few keystrokes for alot of information. Very good with the modpack which textchats the message rather than speaking it [as the speech can interfere with sounds needed to react to like rocket noises and the such]

Personally I'd take something like that over even a properly working headset/mic sort of thing any day of the week.

I've been a speakeasy customer for 2 years now [after pac bell wouldn't transfer IPs between CO's for me, and their service wasn't great anyways]

So on my 2nd install [I've been through 3 now, all via moves] I actually had a 1st level tech IM a 2nd level tech so that we could manually configure the dsl modem [which was set to dynamic via a covad logistics error]. Spent less time waiting for the 2nd level tech to IM back than any pacbell on-hold time.

As for their terms of service: My townhouse is exceptionally close to the CO, and thus we were able to get 1.1 sdsl. My GF pretty is currently complaining because she's running low on CD's from burning things off of her full 140 gig machine [all legit btw seriously!]. We've never gotten so much as an inquiry.

Oh and did I mention you can 'purchase' more IPs via their website, a happy automated script makes it so the ip is up and working/routing for you within minutes/seconds of order. Just nice little things that no other ISP has ever come close to.

If you're going to college you likely have a bit of time to spend, and you'll need to get used to road trips anyways :]

In all seriousness though, this is the best way to do it. If you're flying then use UPS/fedex and bundle the puppy up nice, take the hdd out and insure it.

The best thing for people that wish to replace Exchange/Outlook is to replace email.

No, seriously... There's no possible way you can satisfy the demands of salesguys who will not accept an email/calendar solution that isn't Outlook; and nothing will integrate with outlook well unless it's from Microsoft.

What else then? How about IM/calendar?

Certainly the infrastructure for IM is in place. Users don't need retrained, because nearly everyone has used it [and if not they've probably used textmessaging]. And nearly all IM protocols allow for 'different' message like calendar requests and the such. Plop a gateway that can translate IM email [or eventually do authenticated messaging between companies/servers] and you're set. No more outlook; no more exchange. And salesguys can accept it because while it does the same function it's "different".
