And I on the alien third hand, think that a guy with good connections with a giant "All-American" corperation is going to recieve more influence than some guy with no friends.
I agree, but with a small distinction: America shouldn't put money into education, healthcare and welfare. America shouldn't put that money anywhere, and maybe come close to not being in debt this year.
I also think it's a terrible hypocracy to invade a country over "weapons of mass destruction" when America has the highest number of said weapons.
x86 netbsd SMP code was recently put into -current, and fairly immature yet. A fairer comparison would be using PPC or sparc which iirc have had SMP on netbsd for some time now.
Duke3d was a better game, but Quake was better technology. Hell, Quake made 2 of the greatest technological advancements in gaming! Firstly was hardware acceleration. Running in GL mode, quake simply looked better. Translucent water, fake particle effects, things that simply didn't exist until that time. It would grab people's attention. Second, and more important, was 'drop in' multiplayer. People that could just join a game mid way. Previous games (duke included) required all of the players join up, and then start the game. Required tons of preparation, and prevented alot of multiplayer gaming simply due to logistical problems.
Odd, I think a similar argument "why not just go listen to the band?" was made when music was being pushed over radio and "why not just listen to the radio?" when it was being pushed on MTV.
A private citizen behaving unethically for a private company. Hell, the troops he photographed weren't even US troops! (assuming of course that you speak of the US government)
And to answer the question: no, but only because all people are capable of deceit.
How do you determine where the software comes from? It's simple to incorperate in the US. It's simple to package product in the US even if the coders aren't here. It's simple to compile or make the code available in the US, even if the coders aren't here.
From the little I looked at Ruby a bout a year back it was something that seemed to fit in between PHP and perl in usage and in.... obfuscation. Is this a reasonable generalization?
0 posts, and already slashdotted? the subscribers must've gotten to that one early!
And what's with the java comment, PHP is pretty much nothing like java. It has different uses, different strengths, and different semmantics. When are they going to properly fix PHP like making it stable? (*gasp*)
This also seems alot like something to prevent people from stealing satelite TV. People that broadcast TV realised there's no way to charge for that so they found alternative revenue in commercials. People that broadcast radio realised there's no way to charge for that so they found alternative revenue in commercials. People that boardcast satellite TV realised there's no way to charge for that, so they did it anyways and manipulated the government into policing it for them.
That's why the US has specific false advertising laws...
Why should there be a specific internet law for something that's already illegal? Why should there be a specific porn law for something that's already illegal?
They have a nice easy tax form online. It's free to do state taxes (in California) and a small fee ($10?) to do federal. I did the Federal 2 years ago and it was pretty painless, even compared to the EZ form. This year alas, I've a much messier tax picture, and will be visiting someone soon to have them do it for me... real soon now....
Laziness mostly. Plus I've never done it before, and I don't want to suggest something or try to impliment it on someone else's stuff when I've not done it myself before.
heh, indeed, it was not meant as linux advocacy. Linux is not the best tool for the majority of end users, even power users like my fiancee who learned how to do things rather than how things work.
[the difference being that she knows the procedure to do things, and the format of conventions, but does not understand the inner workings of things really, and thus does not generally understand the implications of many things, or the possibilities.]
The "normal" economy is based on perception of wealth and value rather than accumulation of rare metals. Why should this be any less viable? [beyond the fact that it's perception will be weaker because it's "new"]
Oddly enough, I installed a linux machine for my fiancee (so she could put her website there and work on it remotely). Oddly enough, she uses it almost exclusively to play mahjong or puzzle bobble while her windows machine burns cds.
Linux runs most games that most people play (solitaire) and generally comes 'out of the box' with many more.

Oddly enough that sounds an awful lot like the procedure to get that card working in windows.

It's based on growth. Countries with alot of IT already know how to steal overpriced software.
Actually, given how gzip works, you could probably use the same method to detect dupe articles... :]
Umm, what does this have to do with anything?

Will songs with lots of bass cause the picture to distort? (press on a lcd, watch the colors!)
Who'll be the innovative club/dj to use this to enhance visualization-esque displays?

in win2k you can right click on _default.pif in c:/winnt to do the same thing :]
Oh indeed. My mistake then for the narrow interpretation. :]

RAID still won't save you from user failure. Archives and backups are good :]

Right, she's leaving the windows machine alone, and playing the games on the linux machine nearby :]
You're joking?

Yet the forthcoming DVD has both audio tracks...
