Possibly, if you have a look at his site (under career) you'll see that he was there from '95 - '98. Not sure what things in Singapore were like overall then but I know people who were here around that time and their companies were dropping a shitload on rent.
Oh yeah, landlords in Singapore are bastards. Unbiased of course and nothing to do with finding cockroaches in the place I move into over the weekend.
No, you must understand that the purchase price of a computer is all that matters when determining the value of that computer! Damnit... you... you... fanboi. Now there.
That doesn't prove your point or accurately rebut the grandparent post. You assume that a war for oil would be fought in the interest of the American people; the average citizen like you. I suppose you think that the 'war on terrorism' is for your safety and not a messy cleanup from bygone days coupled with 'defending' the national interests abroad?
I would have modded you interesting for raising the issue of projecting human qualities onto animals. However, not being able to spell 'prey' correctly makes me inclined to think you don't know what you're talking about and just want to have a dig at someone. You've supplied no evidence to back up your assertion while there is a wealth of anecdotal evidence, at least, to the contrary.
This is just an idea that occurred to me (so don't flame too hard!). I use some systems where I have a 6 digit numerical pin and the login process asks for 3 numerical digits randomly. How about taking your 10 digits during the signup process and asking for a selection of finger swipes when authenticating? The number could be varied and you could opt to exclude an injured finger. Maybe that last part introduces some weakness so that you need an additional challenge in the process.
I tried using GIMP several times and just got really, really frustrated. Throwing down the money on Photoshop was painful but I ended up a lot happier when getting things done. Maybe I just needed to find a better tutorial for GIMP..
A thinly veiled accusation of piracy there, I reckon. Maybe, he thought he could do it himself and that the long term investment would be cheaper than constantly hiring an artist. Maybe he had the impression, as a lot of us do, that artists are expensive.
Actually they would just have to make the recipes available. Would need to be careful about which license they chose to distribute the recipes under though. You don't want anything viral, bit painful that.
Not much chance of that happening. Need a few years of sabre-rattling politics before they'll get over themselves and negotiate reasonably. That said there probably should be talks between the four largest trading blocs (USA, China, Europe and ASEAN - I reckon) to figure out how they can benefit each other without the constant furore. Maybe they could even figure out how to stop fucking over the third-world nations through their shitty trade-agreements.
Possibly true, but they don't kill as many of their comrades so they'll still win the numbers game... They're also less likely to be lulled into a false celebration of victory when their enemy decided to fight 'smart' and use urban guerilla warfare instead of outright confrontation.
Ignoring that bullshit, don't assume the USA has superior military ability just because you're told it has. Military intelligence there right now is just plain shite.
That might be a bit harsh, I think it's more likely he has several other boxes that satisfy curiosity. Probably, it's hard to justify then buying an Apple. I doubt the boxes would go away, even on purchase of an apple.
That does make things a lot clearer now. The impression I had, and probably a lot of the other respondents, was that you would be running largely 3rd party software on Debian. As Perl scripts you 'own' constitute the bulk of code you'll be running, this idea would seem less risky than what was implied originally.
Debian is just your platform. Debian + software (your DB2 clients, backups and what-not) is your solution. Right now, you just have anecdotal evidence that this solution will suit. Point is; you're moving from a supported, albeit expensive, solution to one that is fraught with pitfalls. Just don't want to see a move for the sake of a move to Linux.
IBM doesn't officially support Debian as a platform, though I have anecdotal evidence that most of it can be persuaded to work (with alien etc). to It's not about choosing the right technical solution, because I have ample justification for Debian being the right technical solution.
So, your anecdotal evidence is now ample justification? I would say Mike (great-grandparent post) is right on the mark with his comments.
Tim F is not just being a bit tough on the guy he's being an absolute prick. Your definition of what 'Ask Slashdot' for is spot on.
While I've seen dumb questions posted here from time to time, this topic isn't one of them.
No, I think you meant to say: 'In Korea, only old people use proxies' or some such. Korea is the 'in' country in 'In ' jokes ...
You mean 'liberate Mars'?
Monopolies are illegal in a number of countries. You can usually find information about this along with anti-trust legislation.
Go to embassy parties if you want a drink. However, Saudi is still a shit hole so plague avoidance arguments still hold true.

As one spelling nazi to another; it's "don't" or "DON'T" if you prefer the noise.

In Soviet Russia or something

it's the only place that has millions of dollars at it's disposal and highly paid programmers.
Oh, come on now! Is this going to be used as justification for bugs/issues in Linux all the while berating Microsoft for theirs?

And where have the typewriters come from?

Intelligent design obviously

What I meant was that you can get the source (download or whatever). They don't have to *give* it to you, just make it available.

Any chance you could stick a 'boxen' in there, would go nicely with your virii? :)

Now I understand why your drone-alliance URL is so apt ...
