Enlighten my lack of knowledge... but what is a field programmable gate array (FPGA)? Is it another weird acronym like a Global Regular Expression Parser (grep) or Packet Internet Groper (PING)?
The link to Nabisco, for the "Smaller than an OREO cookie" statement? I understand that, as a tech news site, they link to stories on their own website... But to a cookie maker?
No matter how small they make them, I just can't bring myself to wear a computer-watch... I just totally hated the "calculator" watches. It looks too bulky on the wrist!
Last time I checked, Chili's ASP for Linux was damn expensive. With all the *free* programming languages out there, why would anyone do ASP? Why not use PHP or Perl?
As optimistic as I am about alternative-powered cars, I always fear that the multi-billionaire oil companies will just step in and squash whatever idea people have about alternative fuel.
Maybe it's just a myth, but if I were some huge rich cigar-smoking king-of-cash, I'd want to trample whatever threatened my empire. Kinda like Microsoft:)
"Freenet is a large-scale peer-to-peer network which pools the power of member computers around the world to create a massive virtual information store open to anyone to freely publish or view information of all kinds."
I didn't know what it was, so I looked it up. I'm also gonna be donating.
Most of us will probably just see it as a shooting star, if even that. Mir is quite small, and depending on its re-entry speed, I don't think we'll see a whole lot.
If I can run Linux web/smb/inn servers on Athlons without hics -- if I can play Q3A, UT, SoF one after the other, on Athlon and Linux, and still work with my machine after that, the chip isn't the problem.
The buggy chip and incompatibility issues have been bogus since 1983. Incorrect drivers, user error, viruses, file corruption, improper install are all common "buggy" problems, but have nothing to do with the chip.
Yes, I use an 8-way SMP box boasting 8 Pentium III Xeon's @ 800MHz, with 2MB cache, and 1GB RAM as my home desktop machine. I just installed the Mylex RAID controller yesterday. The lights dim when I power it on.
My operating system of choice for this puppy: Windows 98. Beautiful SMP support, especially after I tweaked and recompiled the kernel. I get _at least_ 100fps in Quake3, in software rendering emulation mode.
See how well the Click Here works? You clicked. If I had a banner ad, I would have made $0.02. I've proved my point. It's all marketing. Blame the marketers for the Click Here craze. Now go read my previous post for more information.
I bed to differ. We "geeks" understand and know when to recognize a link when we see one. After taking an Internet Marketing class, statistically, more people will Click Here if you tell them to do so -- just like TV ads that say Buy Now or Hurry, while quantities last! It works with the general public. They're telling the masses what to do, and although the Click Here doesn't work for you or I, think about the millions of AOL customers who don't have a clue... They need to be specifically told to Click Here. And they will.
Trust me -- in online marketing terms, Click Here works, and that's the sad part.
My karma ranges anywhere from 0 to 50 at any given time and I couldn't care less about it. Then again, I couldn't care less about your opionion either, but I will bite at it.
I'm just grateful towards the people who develop and create the free tools I need and use to make me lots of money so I can buy cars, snowmobiles and dirt bikes, pay my house, put beer in my fridge and food in my mouth.
I remember Linus saying that, after the release of 2.2, future kernel releases would be more frequent. How long has 2.4 been in devel, compared to 2.2?
I'm not trying to flame the kernel developers for late releases, it's just an intrigue. Take your time, guys, because we run servers that depend on your code!
I coldn't help but notice, on the screenshots, the FPS... 8-10 fps. That's totally unplayable. Some people consider 30fps unplayable. Besides, I like to have precise aim on my opponents. The blur would just confuse me when I appear to have 25 ennemies lobbing a few rockets around my head.

What I wonder is why people would buy an XBox rather than a PC, other than the fact that a gaming console is typically easier to use than a PC...
I just can't wait to see the price M$ will want for one of those units.....
Anyone have some info as to wether or not that is possible here in Canada / the US? What would prevent the Hydro companies from becoming ISPs?
I don't ... I'm Canadian.

Besides... Its batteries only last TWO HOURS!!
"Excuse me sir, what time is it?"
Nah.

I'd rather have it land on Jean Chretien...
Hey, I'm canadian!
Hint: The Earth is curved...
Columbo would beg to differ...

This was a funny thread, thanks for the laugh :)
... Since 1992. l0pht was one of the first sites to discuss (and expose) security issues publicly on the Web (other than CERT).
I dunno where she got that 220Mhz laptop with 128M RAM... And it runs Word 2000!!
... and I'll be the first to flaunt that some software (i.e. DOOM 3) was released for Linux before its WIndoze counterpart.
For Mac, this is HUGE!

Good point. I was simply trying to validate the (ab)use of Click Here.
