I believe Lotus was a full blown groupware suite before Outlook.
And better, I've heard. Sad, isn't it?
I used both Notes and Outlook and must say that I like the Outlook interface much much better. I know Notes has a lot more functionality, but the client was slow, ugly and hard to configure. We actually had Outlook hooked up to read out Notes mail for a while before we went Exchange.
I think a more respectful, mature tone might have better results:
Dear Senator Hatch,
I am writing in response to your comments today in support of allowing large corporations to destroy the property of individuals based on suspicion of trading in copyrighted works with any judicial oversight or review. I feel the need to remind you that we still have a justice system in this country that is already in place to handle infringement cases after proof is given. This justice system has even been slanted to give more power to companies and individuals based on the amount of money they can bring to the effort. I don't think allowing huge corporations to bypass even the decidedly un-level playing field of the court system is in the best interests of the people of the State of Utah or the United States of America. This would be akin to allowing Best Buy or Sears to imprison suspected shoplifters without trial or recourse. This cannot have been your intention.
Admittedly, I trust the media even less than I do large corporations so I am looking forward to a statement correcting your stance being available in the future.
The savings and talent are available. Just check out Hex and Phantom Stranger. They sell their fine music for way below what you find in the big stores. Of course, they also don't have the 'major label overhead' to deal with. It's great to see some the results that can be had with quality equipment in home studios.
I work for a large insurance company in Illinois. I have been both a contractor and full-time employee here. After the Microsoft lawsuit, there was a definate change in how we treated the contractors here. I was a contractor for over two years and was treated like an employee the entire time. I left just before the end of the lawsuit and the was hired as a full-timer.
Contractors here are no longer part of the 'family' from a managment point of view. They do not attend any of the parties or outings. They aren't allowed in the company raffles or contests. They can't volunteer in our community outreach projects. They don't even come to the town hall meetings. We have been told quite explicitly that they are not to be treated as full time employees because it would open us up to legal action.
The lawsuit really tied our hands here in how we can relate to our contractors. Managment will not attend any contractor roll-off lunches or contractor sponsored events. There is a very sharp line drawn as to what a contract employee can and cannot do with the teams. Just another casualty of the lawsuit.
Goverment passes more and more laws until everyone is a criminal. Then they can lock up anyone for any reason at any time. After a while, the people revolt or move.
Not to worry. I have every confidence that someday France will undertake a mission to liberate us from our oppressive, dangerous government.
I agree that there are far far more Muslims that are peaceful people.
I might have to disagree with you. Read the following story and tell me if this sounds 'peaceful' to you. Say what you will, I never seen anyone leaving my church to go burn down buildings.

Because I'm at the Karma cap and don't need it. I though a +3 Funny or -1 Troll.
It's been known for most of the day that the initial reports of SCUD launches had no basis in fact - even CNN has reported that the missiles were not SCUDs (go check it out!).
Still to early to say. Reports are saying a mixture of SCUDs (which Iraq doesn't have), AL SAMOUDs (which Iraq claimed to be destroying last week, having only ten left) and some type of Chinesse short range missile (which are not banned).
...troops did _not_ don chemical gear because any chemicals were detected, but simply as a precaution...
Correct. At this point, no chemical or biological weapons have been detected. The closest thing so far is that artillery shells that COULD be loaded with such weapons were detected, but they were not loaded. Of course, the shells are also not supposed to exist, but they are no worse right now than any other shell.
Of course, by the time I hit submit, all of these 'facts' I state could be proven wrong. No one will really know for weeks. It's called 'the fog of war'.
So those weren't SCUDs and the oil fields aren't burning? Please let me know where you are getting your "unbiased" information. Sounds like you are watching the highly impartial Baghdad TV stations.
Funny how the US Marines sitting still in the desert have already seen more banned SCUD missiles than the inspectors found in six months of active searching!
I agree with all of your points on the strengths of Cowboy Bebop, but there is something you left out: Fantastic Music!
I'm not a big anime fan. I was hooked into this show while flipping channels and heard some of the music. I bought the 'Perfect Sessions' 3 DVD set and only really know the english voices. I also bought the most of the soundtracks (even after downloading the MP3s for free).
Glad this is coming to Chicago. I'll be at the Music Box that night.
As the law stands now, it would be up to each seller to file a sales tax form in each state where s/he has made a sale. So, if you have five auctions this year and each winner is in a different state from you, you now have to file sales tax returns in those five states.
At an average H&R Block rate of ~$75 per state return, you'd be looking at some massive auction fees. In short, quite possibly the end of online auctions by small players.
What it means to retailers is that they have one number to keep track of sales rather than different fomats from each RIAA member. It is just an accounting system. If anyone could write a UPC code to contain any characters and any length, it would be harder to track.
Please allow me to express the sentiment of most if not all home network users, as well as that of the companies that make routers for home use: Thanks a lot Steve you PRICK!
And if you ever do anything like this again, you will get another Slashdotting!
You might want to have him check out this site: MusicLeads.net. this guy has a few CDs that licenses for use in video productions. I have a couple and they are quite good. Not sure how much he makes, but it's quality and I've never seen his work on any P2P nets.
When the Challanger exploded, I was a kid in high school. When the Columbia burned up, I was taking my kid to a doctors appointment. I feel just as bad as I did 17 years ago.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the crew.

I have a Knoppix DVD disc, along with other live-cds. (And a RH 9 + Mandrake 9.1 install DVD, if anyone is interested.)
If by 'interested', you mean 'interested in a copy' or 'interested in how to make a bootable install DVD' than I'm interested. Drop me a line...

Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
I am a guy who goes by the name Vivian. It's a stage name, really. Vivian used to be a male name in England. My real name (Chris) is also unisex.
I'm not her, so call her.

It's a little different...morpheus and grokster are programs, while Verizon provides a service that allows illegal copies to be transported.
UPS, FedEx, the USPS, any telephony carrier, and the US Department of Transportation have to pony up their records in similar situations...don't they?
Not without a court order, they don't. That is the point of the case.
I can go from Slayer to Yanni to Pink Floyd to Iron Maiden to Brian Eno to David Bowie in the span of about 15 minutes.
I have a WinAmp plugin installed that detects if my mood ever moves to "Yanni". If it does, my computer then kicks me square in the nuts.
They have found a bug in the party. It is now 5.000 pl1. Thank goodness the party was open source!
For anyone wondering what the heck this is, you can look here.
Never seen one of these before...
Just think of it as /. spam.

How about eatable RFID embedded in food, someone ?
