  1. Re:The Current Situation on VeriSign/NSI Proposes Domain Name Wait Listing Service · · Score: 1
Now, Verisign the Registrar releases a lot of domains to the public right now after a certain period of time. At this time the names are released and numerous registrars attempt to snag those names when they are dropped. This practice has caused headaches to no end at Verisign the Registry.
But that's their fscking job! That's exactly what they are contracted to do: cope with the registration/expiration process. If they don't want the headaches associated being a government-sponsored monopoly, they should get out of the business rather than propose an illegal lottery.

This is a computerised system, it should be that as soon as it hits the expiry date (maybe +1 week at the most incase there is a delay in payment) the domain is deregistered and removed from whois, and available free for all again.
Exactly. Isn't this how Microsoft lost control of hotmail.com within 24 hours of the name's expiration back in 1999? Or maybe that's the reason the system's been changed.

Don't assume that local availability equates to a national shortage. Personally, I've been haunting the Houston game stores in search of Dreamcast bargains, and with the exception of Thanksgiving weekend, every store has been well-stocked with both Game Cubes and XBoxen. I've seen people put them back on the shelf due to the shortage of games to actually play on these consoles. That is steering folks to the PS2.

Actually it will. There's a trick that works for Windows too, that will let you upload your music from the Nomad II to the desktop (which, since this whole discussion has drifted off-topic, was one of the requirements of the original poster). The only catch is that you can't actually *listen* to it if you want to be able to transfer it.

Just change the three-letter extension on the filename from ".mp3" to ".txt" and you can upload and download at will. The Nomad won't recognize it as an mp3 file, so it won't be copy-restricted. when you get it back on your peecee, change the extension back (Mac users know how to do the file type/creator magic).

And if you really want to be able to listen to it, you can have both "Enter_Sandman.mp3" and "Enter_Sandman.txt" right next to each other.
