You know those backup files that emacs produces? bla~ and #bla#?
On my (german) keyboard, the ~ and the # keys are right next to the return key, and it happened to me more than once that I typed
rm -rf * ~
when I really just wanted to delete those stupid useless files clobbering my harddrive. If only I had never used Redhat, where I got the habit of always using the f switch to rm...
The german shepherd is almost certainly not one of the most intelligent dog races. In fact, these dogs are chosen as police dogs/mine dogs etc. because they simply obey the commands given, and do little to no thinking of their own. Like soldiers.
Also, I happen to know one shepherd who keeps trying to run through glass doors even after more than three years of experience...
The more words a child learns, the more it's brain adapts to learning new words. That means that a child that is raised with two native languages does in fact learn more words than the average child, because it can.
It only seems like their vocabulary in a given language may be smaller than average because people tend to "forget" certain words if the don't use them often. If I have to talk about computers, I prefer english. Even when I talk german, I use english words for most computer-related things. That is not because I don't know the german words, only because when I think of [spinning thingie with IDE cable on it] it is the word 'harddisk' that comes to my mind. I need to think hard to find the german word for that, buried deeply somewhere in my Sprachzentrum...
There will be a universe where I tunnel right through my floor into the basement.
And there will be universes where your upper half tunnels through the floor, the lower half doesn't, and your ass tunnels halfway through it, in the reverse direction. And... there's infinitely more universes...
Careful with that! Usually, when you've got case paddings, the computer runs a lot warmer than without them, which would lead to the fans spinning up -- there goes the silent system. You've got to choose between the two solutions.
Yeah when networking don't work that really really sucks hard, because all the information you need may be available freely on the internet, you can't get it. I remember when I didn't get ISDN to work, it was weeks of switching between linux and windows, always the search->download->reboot->install->fail->reboot cycle. It made me all nuts. I surrendered at the end, only to discover (a year later) that you need network card suppord enabled in the kernel config (how come there's not a single sentence mentioning this in the online help?)!
Wouldn't the fastest runner have a distinct advantage over the other players?
Now what do you think is the point in being a good runner? Of course you have an advantage when you're faster, but that's part of the game, of every game. If everybody were equally fast, most sports would be no fun. Think before you type. Thanks.
I have to use two keys to get into my apartment. That process takes anything between 30 seconds and 2 minutes because nearly all my keys look the same and I'm too lazy to mark them. Typing in a password would require, like, 2 seconds or something.
Why would they want to switch to another language, which some developers might not like at all, rewriting every core gnome app? Sounds like they're overdoing something (not sure what exactly). Why does it need to be one language for everything anyway? They could have applications written in nearly every language, because the bindings exist. Or limit it to some, like, C, C++, C#, java, python. Anyone care to explain?
how about a late 40s, early 50s noirish L.A.-based setting
The next title to be released in this series could be GTA London 2 if I may make a guess there. Now that would be something different, old style cars and old style cops AND minis all over the place!
I can understand those who press the button if it's already pressed -- I do it automatically, no matter how many people are already waiting.
What I don't understand, no, what pisses me off is those people who summon the elevator, and when the door opens they ask: "Which way?" I mean, are they too fucking stupid to realize that there's a little arrow on that button they pressed, and that the elevator will only stop if it is empty or going in that direction the arrow is pointing at? Worse, they don't like to be told. I wonder if those people can manage to eat or do other highly demanding tasks in their lives.
Yes, one could argue that a 2.6 kernel would be overkill on that machine, since 2.4 also works and does everything you want. But the 2.6 won't make your system slower if that's what you mean.
You mean, like, the braking distance will be shorter when pumping then with ABS? Don't be too sure of this. Btw you're also likely screwed when you pump anyway, because you are likely to get into the oncoming traffic, or hit a tree. Just hit the brake and never release it, wether your car has ABS or not. The big difference is that with ABS you can still steer.
Hell I have never heard of this band, but I'd really like to support them. One problem: Most rap music gives me headaches (because it's only stupidity pressed onto a CD, mod me as flamebait but that's my opinion). I'm not going to buy the CD when I can't download and listen to at least one of the songs on it. Would you?
I second that. Btw, ever found out why rhythmbox wouldn't start if you used esound and had sound events enabled? Because it worked fine if you enabled them after starting rb...
Windows may be pretty close, but it has been closer. Ever used Windows 3? I nearly never bothered using the mouse, as everything could be done more easily with shortcuts. Microsoft has been moving away from that ever since. Today it is still possible to do (nearly) everything just using a keyboard under Windows, but most of it is easier done with the mouse.

Should they be?
There's still vla!
>"But..."
<"We don't support networks."
>"So it's not on a network anymore now."
<"Ok, I see your problem is caused by a bad modem, new one is on it's way."
The same increase is happening in Europe (the oil comes from the same source)...

Battleserver?
Never got that. The old debian installer is already so easy to use: Insert cd, (press enter, repeat), done.

While we're at it, centericq! centericq! centericq!

Yes, yes, you're being funny. But. San Andreas has no bridges in the original game. They'll have to come up with something new.

All it would need is a freedesktop.org standard protocol for file manager/application interaction
You probably only wanted to say "drag & drop" didn't you?
