    Anyone here who could actually read that?
    I think it's perfectly OK to write all lowercase when it's only a few sentences. You wrote three paragraphs like that. I couldn't even finish the first one before getting bored, it reads like those monotone voices that robots had in really old movies.

    There are people who like being corrected.
    There's no way anyone can learn proper English if mistakes aren't pointed out to them.

    ...Much of it has to do with the programming practices Microsoft has fostered - like writing to global registry keys in the Windows 95 and 98 days.

    How about mapping the global keys to private keys? If only someone paid me for those brilliant ideas I have all the time!

    There is *no* excuse for C style strings.

    I happen to like C style strings. It allows for easy manipulation. When you need something higher-level, user another language (java?), or write a wrapper class.

    Why?

    merging several independant utilities into one monolithic tool is the exact opposite of how unix works. A single, simple tool to do a single simple task. I can't imagine why any other unix system would want this thing

    I for my part have always wondered why there are two daemons, atd and cron, doing essentially the same thing.
    As for the parallel startup, that's just great and I hope the major Linux distributions are going to pick that up soon.

    I swear I have played monkey's Island 20 times at least, and it never wears out. Don't assume that FPS are the only games everyone plays only because you don't know any better.

    You should try the following: 1. Click on your Desktop. 2. Take a deep breath. 3. Press Ctrl-A, followed by Enter Voila -- Your computer just exploded. No more cluttered desktop.

    For me, quitting was *very* easy. I did not watch TV for about half a year. Then I found out I was actually paying for cable (yes I do feel a little stupid about it), and since then I've had TV again. But I do it way less than before.
    So, if you want to quit watching TV, just sell your TV set. What do you think you need that thing for -- you've got a computer that can provide you with the same things that a TV can plus lots more.

    All the IDE drives I have don't spin up on 12V. They do need 12V for that, but they spin up, when the IDE controller comes on. (I use only seagate drives)

    If anything, putting system configuration abilities into the hands of end-users will *delay* corporate adoption rather than speed it.

    D'uh. You still need the root password to edit system files. What's new is that there's a GUI to it.

    What do you mean by that? You can run a gnome-session remotely, i've tried that. Same with kde. The apps usually are completely network-ignorant, they don't know the difference between running locally and remote.

    Stay cool. This happens everywhere. Did you absolutely need the newest versions of Samba/KDE? Why not just a week until they are compatible again, and upgrade then?
