How do you know that any sizable portion of that 1.3 billion poeple support terrorism. Most of these 1.3 billions are busy trying to make their ends meet and mind their own business. Only a small portion of these people are radicals, and even smaller number actually doing the violence.
Then again, in the last 100 years or so, the western civilization has been responsible for the most lives lost, far more than anything that Muslims have done. Atrocities like holocaust does not make west look very civilized.
Yet, I would not call the people of the west barbarians.

Satire may be in the Danish culture, but the newspaper which published these cartoons refused to print cartoons lampooning Jesus because it will cause public outcry. Sounds very hypocritical to me.
I am mildly offended by these cartoons because of their racist nature (yes I saw all the cartoons). The protests in the first four months were peacefull. I don't what broke the camels back, is it because the Danish prime minister did not handle it very smartly, or the muslim clerics fanned the fire, or is it because the a lot of other Europian newspapers decided to reprint the cartoon. It could be all of the above. Certainly, the Iraq war has most muslims very angry. Then the Abu Ghraib, constant demonizing of Islam from certain quarters. Don't know. I don't support violent riots/protests. This has gone way out of control.
Your history teacher would be wrong. Romans kicked the jews out not the arabs/muslims. Besides, how were the arabs of early twenteith century responsible for acts by some group of people more than thousand years ago?

I wasn't allowed to fly with a carry on luggage that had nail clippers in it. I had to get back out of the security area, check the luggage in and go back through the security. This happened couple of years ago and I believe the rules have changes since then.

US has used its army in wars that were less than moraly supportable. Vietnam comes to mind. The noble american army did commit atrocities there. The US military machine has bombed other countries based on false intelligence killing people as well.
And, last but not least, US government has toppled democratically elected governments and put puppet tyrants in their place. All the above action would not create a loving feeling towrads the US army or the government.
Look back at your countries foreign policy for the last 50 years. It was based on NOT what is right or moral, rather very short term interest. Now the whole thing is a mess. Israel is a reality and cannot be undone without another atrocity. Arabs has to live with that and stop the terrostic activities. But, Israelies also need to realise the rights of Palestainies and withdraw behind 1967 borders. Israel keeps on encroaching on whatever is left of Arab/Palestine land. But, in the eighties, Israel actually encouraged groups like Hamas to neutralize the PLO. Hamas eventually got strong enough and is now more militant than the PLO.
The bottomline is Palestanians did not get sympathy from the west when they were not using religion and it is going to be even worse now that a good portion of them are using religion.

Jews were persecuted almost everywhere they went in Europe. The irony is that they got sanctuary in muslim countries like Turkey and they lived peacefully with the Muslims till the Zionist movement began in late 19th century.

Yep, I guess I missed your point. The Arab/Persian golden age ended right around 15/16th century. But, I agree it is still a long time ago.
Arabs contributed a lot towards algebra. In fact the algebra come from an Arab mathematician's name Al Jabr (sp?).
There are other fields of knowledge the Arabs, Persians contributed heavily.
