There are a lot of idiot drivers in Miami. They do stupid things. They cut you off. They pull in front of you and stop short on purpose.

They run red lights. They wait till the last 20 feet to get over.

This is what links road rage here.

The way in which MS is treating XP is just counter-intuitive. I have to agree it's the best windows OS they've ever produced.

simple solution. Computer targeting controlled, infrared engine tracking 50 caliber rifle assemblies mounted on either side of a runway which will pop two jacketed hollow point .50 bullets into a jet's engines before they can spool up. those will effectively destroy a jet engine's ability to produce thrust. A jet engine is a huge target for a rifle 100 yards away.

    No engines, no flying.

That's quite a simple and effective solution.

Though, not quite recommended for turbo prop engines as you don't want to send prop fragments hurling into the fuselage.

or, you could just fire a giant harpoon into its tail. Though, that's not quite elegant.

  10. I believe violence breeds agression. on Games and Music, the New Book Burning · · Score: 1

Children these days are bombarded with violence. It is presented in many forms some of which are glorified.

The majority of these forms are presented on simple broadcast television.

I certainly don't want the government to start regulating. I also don't want some "reverend" to start preaching about it.

I've read enough studies to know that a steady diet of violence does breed aggressive behavior. It certainly doesn't promote peaceful problem solving skills.

That being said, I want my fucking games. I am 32 years old and I enjoy playing violent video games. I am a father and there's no way in hell my kid is going to play these games.

What we really need, though draconian it may seem, is full enforcement of game ratings. Make it a crime to sell violent media to children or to parents for consumption by their children. 90% of this is just bad parenting.

When Holly Homemaker gets locked up for letting little Johnny play GTA IV, some heads will turn. I certainly don't believe this is the sort of thing we really should have, but if it protects my rights to play violent video games, I'm all for it. Especially since I'm not the one getting locked up.

I wish parents would wake up and realize that most games these days aren't for kids.

There's always the "don't tell me how to raise my kids" people, but their kids are usually spoiled rotten and get away with murder.

  11. are these publishers even necessary? on Activision/Vivendi Merger Looms, Fallout Continues · · Score: 1

Large publishers seem somewhat obsolete these days. These publishers are hard-wired for physical distribution. They spend probably half the whole budget on marketing.

With publishers like steam, I'm not quite sure these old school publishers are even necessary.

A small development house can now sell on steam and provide their own marketing in the form of a website and advertising on web television networks like revision3.

That way, they can provide most of their budget to the actual game instead of 9 television commercials and booth babes. Though we'd miss the booth babes.

sound off, are these bloated draconian publishers really still necessary?

  14. bye bye Interwebs. We'll miss the tubes. on AT&T Embraces BitTorrent, Considers Usage-Based Pricing · · Score: 1

the problem is that 99% of users that have had their accounts for more than a year were signed up to "unlimited" accounts.

Now ISPs and comcast want to alter the deal. They want to offer us less for the same price. This is not acceptable. I signed up for unlimited usage.

I don't think it's fair, ethical, or legal for them to just change the terms without notification or consideration. I'm not paying the same price for such limited usage. Everyone needs high bandwidth, high throughput service now. The ISPs clearly didn't think things through and now they are taking a hit. While they were lining their pockets, they should have been building out new infrastructure.

Sure AT&T got federal funding to implement a new fiber network. They also had to agree to full Air Force/NSA monitoring of the entire network in exchange. There's no free lunch apparently. So we will have 100Mbit lines from AT&T for umpteen hundreds of dollars per month. However, when they let Joe Sheriff and Johnny Officer have full access to the monitoring, they will start putting file sharers in jail because the MPAA and RIAA have the money from their profitable litigation venture to buy new laws from congress that make it illegal.

Thus file sharing will become a thing of the past and people will again have 100Mbit lines but only use 5 or 6 percent of them. Then we will see unlimited contracts again. Then the cycle will repeat.

The issue here is one of greed. The issue is also because of unethical congressmen passing laws written by industry lobbyists.

AT&T is again a monopoly and they have made their deals with the government for monopoly power in exchange for full network access without pesky rules or laws or courts. Yep, you'll have your bandwidth and you'll have to exchange that for privacy. No more tentacle porn, no more mp3s, no more xvid movies or blu-ray rips.

The government has sold its citizens for cash. When we finally get some congress people with integrity, they might possibly undo these bad laws.

As far as I'm concerned, most congresspeople are nothing more than petty whores. They have their price, but instead of giving handjobs, they're selling America.

Success for the black man doesn't mean becoming white. Though I think many blacks equate learning proper English with white people. They prefer to speak their dialect. Though I'm sure many would argue ebonics isn't a dialiect or a pidgin.

I've met many black Cubans who think they aren't black. They are really racist against the American black man. A Cuban could be darker than you, but he still wouldn't treat you like a peer. To most Cubans, black Americans are lower than them. I'm just going on what I'm told. I know more than 100 Cubans living in Miami. Most, though clearly hispanic and darker skinned than me, consider themselves white. Even my own brother-in-law kept telling me he was white. I had to remind him, that with a Cuban mother(who clearly had an African ancestor), and a Lebanese father, he's not even close to white. Some might even argue this is racism. I married his sister, so I wouldn't call it that racist.

Cuban people, no matter how dark skinned they are, just don't like Black Americans. And there you have it.

Today about half of Cuba is black. It wasn't that way 20 years ago. The Cubans living in Cuba aren't even Cuban anymore. That culture is lost to most anyone under 30 living in Cuba or even here in Miami. I've learned about real Cuban culture from old Cubans; Those who lived in Cuba before castro and left legally in the 1960's. They'll tell you they're descended from Spaniards. They'll tell you how their ancestors drove the indians out of Cuba. They'll tell you how they don't trust anyone with dark skin.

You must know black Cubans who are under 30. Ask any of them over thirty and they'll tell you how racist Cuban people are. The Cuba that exists today has lost most of the culture. The Cubans that live in Miami have lost a great deal of their culture. There are plenty who haven't. And they, my ignorant friend, are racist. Being racist is part of traditional Cuban culture. Being republican is just part of their new world ignorance. There is a great culture gap between American television and Spanish language tv here in Miami. Many Cubans in Miami are just naive enough to think that all republicans are Ronald Reagan. Most of them are racist enough not to vote for a black man.

They most always vote republican, despite it being against their own interests.

And finally the clincher? It has nothing to do with being Muslim or not. It has nothing to do with religion at all. They're racist. I know it's a shocking claim. Cubans are probably the most racist people I've ever met and that's including my grandmother who was wicked racist. I know a lot of Cubans and they're all racist.
