    Please actually find out what happened in that case. There was a reason the jury awarded the $2mil in the McDonald's hot coffee case. McDonalds actually had an internal study that noted that the coffee will burn people, and that whatever settlements/suits will cost, it will still be cheaper than using better quality coffee at lower temperatures.

    Also, they showed that in other cases, McDonalds actually paid for the medical costs, and in this case, the manager laughed at her, and ridiculed her.

    I believe in punishing assholes.

    Has anyone mentioned "Request Tracker"? I have no idea what ITIL encompasses, but I do know that as a ticketing package, it sure beats all those expensive crap out there.

    Umm - people run vmware on native partitions and dual boot of that partition all the time, what in the world are you talking about? All you have to do is to set the boot profile up. And that's easy to do.

    In Europe, people are paying $60 for 100mb up and down. In South Korea, people are paying $20 for the same. In Japan, people are getting fiber to the house.

    I've been on misc@ for about 8 years now. From what I've seen, Theo is only short with people who want to make him do things _their_ way, rather than work with him to get things done his way.

    For example, every now and then, someone who bitch about the price of CDs, and how it would be more beneficial to sell OpenBSD CDs with only x86, as that's what most users have. You know, sell it for $29.95 or something, and supposedly, OpenBSD will sell more of it.

    Most of the times, these people are only interested in doing things for THEMSELVES. People buy OpenBSD CDs to support the project - else, they'd just download it. Additionally, it takes time, money and effort to carry TWO different products, and all these is being done by volunteers. Not to mention inadvertantly shipping the wrong product, etc.

    But for some damned reason, these people keep coming back to insist that THEIR way is better, and OpenBSD MUST OFFER A SINGLE X86 CD VERSION OF OPENBSD, OR OPENBSD WILL DIE OFF.

    bloody irritating fsckers, lemme tell you.

    Has any one who badmouths Theo actually tried to talk to him? I've communicated with him without any issues. Just because a person has principles, and stands up for those principles, loudly, doesn't mean he is an asshole.

    Looking at the NetBSD issue, Theo was bitching about developers who kept introducing security holes - I dunno about you, but I'd bitch slap people who keep introducing security holes too, else you end up with something like Windows.

    They certainly had games that *I* liked. Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, FF series, Onimusha, etc. Some of these were not PS2, obviously.

    "Emotion Engine" was just a marketing hype, how was it a flop?

    Quality - for every post that says that they have bought multiple broken PS2 units, I can show you another post where folks have had up to 5 broken xbox 360s. But, reliability in general, isn't about what one person sees, but what the overall rate is, and PS2's broken rate isn't that high, iirc.

    What lack of compatibility with DVDs? I've never had any problems, and I've had my PS2 from day 1.

    Dude - in what way was the PS2 a disappointment? And how can the PS3 be a disappointment when you haven't even touched one? It looks a bit expensive, and still in development, but it can't be disappointing until you've played some games on it, right?

    Bill Gate's original "vision" was to make MSDOS more Unix like as time went on. In fact, iirc, the reason MSDOS uses the stupid "\" everywhere was because of copyright issues with using "/" - yeah, I know, but IANAL.

    Then he got side tracked by the Macs.

    A remote root login has only one user id to attack.


    A remote user login sudo to root has an unknown number of userids to attack, some of which cannot sudo to root (even if you have NOPASSWORD, which is dumb, in a DMZ box).


    Patches should never be PULLED, but PUSHED, to DMZ boxes.

    OK, this does not make sense. DoD and the US government has a shitload of Checkpoint licenses - something like 30% or 50% of their firewalls are checkpoints.

    Why would checkpoint/snort be an issue? And it's not like Checkpoint can't just download a copy of snort, and use that to integrate with their firewalls.

    Besides, isn't Israel our good friend?

    Please, I'm talking about the point of view of the industry. I could care less about what is the difference between a license and all that. It's what RIAA and MPAA is trying to sell to congress.

    Please notice how they weasel around, and talk about CDs and so on as OBJECTs when they want you to buy multiple copies of a song, mp3, vinyl, CD, etc. Yet, the moment you start downloading things, it's a fscking license.

    Because you are purchasing a LICENSE!

    In case of a book, you are purchasing an OBJECT.

    A license is not dependable on a physical object, but grants you a right to use. The object/CD, is only there to help transfer that right to use. Hence, if it's broken, there should be a cheaper replacement than buying a new license.

    While I like the specs of the new MacBooks, at their price point they don't quite cut it. Perhaps the second revision will make changes. Its just so hard to justify $600+ MacTax for 1lb of less weight and a few minor extras. Case in point CompUSA is selling an Acer duo, (1280x800 display x1400 graphics, 2GB memory, 120gb hdd, for 1299).


    Dude, you missed the graphics. That comes with the shitty shared memory graphics, and not whatever Apple comes with.

    Entrust? OMG, if there's a list of screwed up PKI, these guys would be #2. Tried to pull the proprietary shit in certs, and getting diss'ed by Peter Gutmann. Only took a year to finally get someone to look at a security issue I had, and of course, they took the wrong approach to the issue (just saying "it's not an issue", after your internal security team said it's an issue is NOT the right approach).

    I find it interesting that people who work on PKI do not read Peter Gutmann's articles on PKI.

    Remember the wmf issue from Microsoft recently? If you use their PKI, there's another bigger hole in there, bigger than wmf.
