Actually, there's a huge thread on that very subject in the Amish Buggy Customization forum, but since the responses are carved on a rock out in a field in PA, you probably missed it.

  2. Re: Checklist on North Korea Admits to Having Nuclear Weapons · · Score: 1

I'm getting pretty sick of knee-jerk, ill-informed responses.

North Korea has everything Iraq had, and more. But oil isn't the issue.

The fact that North Korea is an ally of China, a major nuclear power with the resources to be an actual threat to the US, and an invasion of North Korea would lead directly to war with China, is the foremost reason why they won't be invaded.

Honestly, do you people think that *everyone* in the State Department are drooling idiots??

  3. I'm not just playing devil's advocate, but... on Marvel Sues City of Heroes Makers · · Score: 1

I don't think this is just about using the name or the image of the characters.

Wolverine's claws are very distinctive - 3 blades protruding from the top of each hand.

The 'claws' power set is one of the (5? 6?) central power sets all scrappers get access to. There are approx. 30 different combinations of scrapper powers. Scrappers are one of 5 archetypes.

That means that a regenerating character with Wolverine's claws is one of only approx 150 different possible combinations. That's a far cry from one in a million. If the claw power set looked different than it does - looking like an animal's claws, for example - there would be no argument.

But if you created a comic with a regenerating character with 3 bladed claws that emerged from their hands, you might have some trouble with Marvel regardless of what other (cosmetic) changes you made to it, like changing the name, sex, or costume...

"You have 2nd MMO syndrome". My first MMO was EQ. My 2nd is City of Heroes. I can honestly say I'm blown away by CoH. Of course, I don't like spending 3 months gathering all of the pieces of an epic item just so I can be remotely effective - the enhancement system of CoH, how no player is massively better than another just because they can camp the rare spawns - is one of my favorite aspects of the game.

People might 'be this dumb' because they plan to buy and play the game when it's released, and they want it to be perfect the first time... because it's a HOBBY.

Nobody is going to get filthy, stinking rich off of Paranoia. It's not a DnD Cash Cow. It's just a game.

Now, if it's a game one intends to play, would you rather have the official rules be broken and have to house-rule everything, or give your feedback during development so that the product is what you would actually want to buy?

The fact that it could have been done in the 1870s instead of the distant future underscores the point Joss was trying to make: the same problems, fears and frustrations that people faced 2000 years ago will still be plaguing them 2000 years from now. Technology changes, but human nature doesn't.

Rumors that I've heard (at Coming Attractions, if I recall correctly) is that now that Neo is The One, he flies around the city doing all sorts of incredible things in an attempt to wake up the populace that they're all living in a dream. The dramatic tension *inside* the Matrix will be gone (for Neo, anyway - the rest of the crew still doesn't quite believe they won't die, perhaps), but the humans are still very vulnerable in the outside world. (Kind of ironic - humans hold the greatest power in the virtual world, while computers have the most power in the meat world...) Anyway, I never bought the whole "using humans as batteries" idea. That's profoundly inefficient. Personally, I think we'll find out that humans are enslaved because the computers need humans to keep writting their AI code, since computers won't be capable of the brilliant flashes of insight that leads to new, elegant algorithms...
