Dillo supports no where near the amount of stuff a full browser does. If you are just browsing simple sites then sure, but it's a hassle to change browsers just to visit new sites. Opera supports 99.9% of the sites I go to. I only very rarely need to switch to Mozilla, usually for full java applet support, since that is still buggy in the newest Opera Linux.

Yes, but a LOT of sites use javascript pop ups for legitimate things, my bank for instance.

I actually got my brokerage to fix their page though, they had javascript on every URL in their nav bar even though it wasn't opening new windows, I told them that was unnecessary and causing breakage, so they fixed it! Not all big companies are unresponsive to customer requests to the webmaster. (My broker is DLJ/CSBF/HarrisDirect if they could only stop merging with companies now)

One can no longer argue ENORMOUS performance increases due to SCSI, it just isn't like that any more. Argue that SCSI is a better technology (it is), argue that SCSI is more flexible and not a hacked together system, but don't argue performance, because it's just not a valid argument anymore.

why do you consider NPR to be "pseudointellectual" rather than just "intellectual"? Are they faking it?

Because of their attitude. Certain things are "intellectual" to them and certain things aren't. It doesn't matter what level of intelligence is required to comprehend said things. This happens to some extent on Slashdot also, and in any subculture with tight subculture folkways.

When they report on a story about something they consider below them, the condesending tone permeates. These are the kind of people that use [sic] constantly when they quote people to go out of their way make them look stupid.

If you ever tune in to their "humor" shows, it becomes very obvious. These people have serious rods up their ass, and they enjoy every minute of it.

I'm guilty of wielding the weapon of pseudointellectualism ever now and then, but these people live by the sword of it.

Might as well discuss it, the story is boring enough, and it is ontopic.

I'd say it's not so much a grounding problem as an inductive surge off the pump motor coils. Are you running the pump motor from the computer's power supply? If so, you need a kick supressor of some sort. A diode that is put in parallel with the motor windings and reverse biased to the DC current will usually do nicely. Make sure to pick one of the largish black diodes that they use in power supplies, not the little signal diodes.

Let me know if you need any more tips or have questions. We can meet on IRC to discuss this also, I'm starting a new electronics chat network shortly that this type of question would be perfect for.
