One of the major factors in the scarcity of high res LCD displays is problems plaguing production. Most manufacturers specify a certain (relatively small) number of dead pixels that are acceptable. When you are dealing with a higher resolution, it is much harder to produce a display with out any dead pixels. A 1600x1200 display has a total of 1,920,000 pixels. For every one display that is actually manufactured and sold, there may be another three that never made it past quality assurance. This is why high-res LCD displays are so hard to find and so ridiculously expensive.
Hopefully, in the future, when manufacturing processes become more refined, the price will come down and availability will increase.
"Runs a 600Mhz Crusoe chip, and they claim substantial battery improvements with no performance hit. "
No performance hit as opposed to what? What other processor are you comparing the Crusoe to. I seriously doubt it could compete with most mid-range laptops on the market today in terms of performance.
Suppose you buy an audio book and play it on a tape player. If you then copy down everything you hear in a book and sell it as notes, you have pretty much just distributed a copy of the book...hence violation of copywrite.
First of all, the URL is http://goatse.cx/ not http://www.goatse.cx.
Second, that link has been dead for over a week. You troll wannabes are always bitching about the moderators never checking THEIR links, so why don't you check your own once in a while.
The sad fact about all that is that so many consumers (read: Sheep) are willing to spend an extra couple bucks based solely on Intel's name recognition. In their mind, Computer = Pentium. People would buy a steaming heap of shit if it had the name Pentium on it.
You really don't need to go to Slashdot more often.
At first you go for the occasional interesting story, then you sign up as a user, and before you know it, you'll be spending 18 hours a day clicking the refresh button on your browser trying to get the elusive First Post.
It won't be long before the boss notices that your productivity goes way down due to your constant trolling and Linux bashing and you lose your job, your landlord evicts you and you wind up living on the streets giving handjobs for crack!
Let's see.... Napster has no way to generate revenue short of making it a pay service, their servers and bandwidth have got to cost quite a bit, and there currently on the losing end of a multi-million-dollar lawsuit. Sounds like something I'd like to invest in.
On the other hand, I bet Taco's got a couple extra mil to blow.
Sure they can. Go into your preferences menu, and check the box marked "JonKatz". You will never see one of his stories on Slashdot again as long as you're logged in. Stop whining.

Actually, a sustainable fusion reaction is quite possible. Perhaps you've heard of THE SUN. Of course, I suppose you could argue that several billion years isn't sustained.
And DeCSS is illegal because.........
Imagine: A Beowulf 2 cluster of LCD screens covering an entire wall.

It's always nice to see the chip at the top of the list doesn't work.

I believe all of the above DO qualify as Frequently Asked Questions. So it looks like Taco & Hemos met their goals.
Fortunately, that problem should be taken care of next month when AMD releases the 760 chipset which will support 2-way SMP and DDR memory.
Ever heard of Cliff's Notes?
And it's copyRIGHT

Sounds like my case temperature will be the first thing heating up. I thought my 800 Mhz Thunderbird was hot.
According to a recent press release, the 1.2 Ghz Thunderbird will come with it's own drip tray and an endorsement by George Forman
Think of all the girls you could get with one of those. And most geeks are still wondering why they're still single.
Man, and I thought some of the other Slashdot stories were old. This one should get a medal or something.

SLASHDOT IS THE DEVIL!
First first post from a day old story!
Has anyone else noticed that the top story on the main page just vanished? It was something about RedHat claiming to have invented Linux?
On the other hand, I bet Taco's got a couple extra mil to blow.
Who mentioned napalm? (other than yourself) Moltov cocktails do not contain napalm.
You guys are aware that the GASOLINE in all of our cars is also highly flamable. This doesn't seem to cause too many problems.
Does taking 2-D images of a 3-D display not make a lot of sense to anyone else?
not 8 bit color, 8 colors. 3 bits per pixel, I think.
