This reminds me of something that happened to me recently. My wife and I went away for the weekend and on our return, found a note at the bottom of our stairs from the police, informing us that they had found our front door wide open and had gone inside to make sure we hadnt been robbed, they'd been into every room (we've found the dirty footprints) and secured the door on their way out. We wrote to the police about this and thanked the officers in question. In my opinion, the US should do the same.
As a Virgin subscriber, the reason I stay with them is that they give me a good 20Mb connection, which unlike most ADSL subscriptions is actually 20Mb.. I dont know of anywhere else that can offer me that kind of bandwidth for a decent price.
As for DPI, I stopped using P2P a few months ago, and now all my downloads are SSL encrypted over usenet.. In my case the polices fear that these measures will push people to encryption are completely justified.
I wonder if the level of searches for Michelle Obama has increased since this story was released? Also, how many people have seen the image now, that wouldnt have before?
Thing is, WGA doesnt stop pirated copies of Windows (XP at least) from using Windows Update.. There are various "Activation cracks" that will pass WGA and let you update to your hearts content, so I dont think it necessarily matches up that "pirated = trojaned"..
Actually, the leader (assuming you mean GWB) wasnt voted out, he had reached the maximum term and had to leave anyway, and his original election was questionable as well..
South Korea (the one with Seoul) probably would tell Washington about it, but it's unlikely that China or Iran would. It's more likely that they would exploit the vulnerability in secret.
Its quite likely that China (and others) already are.
I'd hate to be on the ground there, and get the radio message "Sorry, World War 3 has broken out. By the time you get this message, there will be no survivors here. Good luck, you'll be the only surviving humans in the universe."
Better that someone gets that message than no one.. That alone is a good reason to do it.
IANA trained psychologist but, it seems to me that the whole idea of making the viewing/downloading of CP illegal, will only have the opposite effect of whats intended (assuming whats intended is a reduction of child sex abuse), because pedophiles dont decide what they are attracted to anymore than anyone else.. Considering the stigma attached to even the suggestion of being a pedophile, I think its quite reasonable to assume that given the choice, a pedophile wouldnt be one if they could help it. Given that, I would much rather they got their kicks jerking off to CP, than taking it out on a child because they have no other avenue.
Sex is a very powerful motivator for anyone (just look at the advertising industry for proof of that) and to assume that someone will just control their urges for the rest of their lives without any way to 'release' (for want of a better word) them seems very dangerous and ignorant of human (and animal) behaviour. I dont know what the solution is to child sex abuse, except maybe compulsory therapy for abusers as well as the abused (although, by then the damage is already done), but Im pretty sure this isnt it.
Maybe they should trust the technical staff they hired to be able to fix any issues, rather than relying on third-parties all the time.. This a recurring problem I find with all government bodies and large corporates. All of the small businesses that I've worked for have had to rely on OSS, purely for financial reasons and as a result the technical ability of the IT staff there tends to be much higher than that of you average corporate/gov body.
>Israel survives as a "pure" culture by ethnically herding native born non-Jews into refugee camps. Chasing people into camps and then not allowing them to leave counts as herding.
This is becoming a very common theme for PS3 on the Playstation Network, Little Big planet, for example has lots of extra costumes, that you can get for a small(ish) fee.. For what I've seen tho, most people just download the free stuff and leave the pay stuff behind. Im not sure what the figures are, but there was uproar about having to pay £4GBP for a 1st week t-shirt for your sackboy. So far the only Micropayments that do work, are from extra tracks for games like SingStar and Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Although, I think any more than 99p per track is excessive (are you listening, Activision?)
If Micropayments do take off, they need to work on how much they charge for stuff..
Although a lot depends on your country (Im in the UK, I've heard its a lot harder in the US) and although I started over 10 years ago, when there were a lot less techies to go around, it is quite possible to get a good job, but you need to start at the bottom.
I left school at 16 with no qualifications, and started by getting a temp job in an IT company (EDS, as it happens) doing general office work, and was lucky to impress my boss with an interest in IT, from there I transferred into the desktop support team, and then went to another job doing desktop repair. From there, I got lucky and got a trainee Unix admin job at my local ISP.. BTW, these guys are a goldmine for learning *nix/networks, etc, and I would recommend applying to your local ISP from the off, if its a small-medium outfit, they are more likely to hire someone with enthusiam, although the pay will probably suck. After a couple of years of unix under my belt, I was set. Since then, I've worked for major corporates, and earned upwards of £100k a year for contract work.
However, a friend of mine took the university route, and has done very well out of it and a lot easier than I did. So I guess the upshot it yes, you can do it, but its easier with a degree..
As an interesting aside, my friends experience has mostly been very commercial, whereas mine has been mostly Open Source. I wonder if theres more than a coincidence there..?
Which is a perfect example of how you can put the latest technologies into your game and it will still be mediocre, unless you think long and hard about the gameplay..

Maybe OT, but Sainsbury's are also selling Modern Warfare 2 for £26 (less than half RRP), so now there's two reasons to shop there...

Hopefully he'll die from AIDS.
This is scored a 2 !?
It was Alanis Morisette, not Natalie...

Those heady days are gone my friend, MSExchange doesnt speak grep...

If this takes off then I expect virtual display headsets like in the link below will become very popular...

I cant really see this being usable without something like this..
Actually, it was the Dutch who invented Big Brother..
So, does this attraction and repulsion explain why photons act like a wave instead of individual particles?
Because the rest of the "so-called" free world doesn't spend much on their military.
There. Fixed that for you

I was expecting 7 versions to justify the names?? :-)</quote>
If you include "Pirated Edition", there is..
You, on the other hand, have an epic backbone.. Unless, of course, your wife/kids/boss/mother doesnt read Slashdot.
>Israel survives as a "pure" culture by ethnically herding native born non-Jews into refugee camps. Chasing people into camps and then not allowing them to leave counts as herding.
That seems just a tad ironic to me...
I can name two.
TOCA Race Driver 2 took over a year to be cracked, but which time most people had either bought it or not bothered and moved onto something else..
The same thing happened with Soldiers: Heroes of WWII.
I believe both were using Starforce 3, back when it was new.

Maybe this is Bolders Jewelrey Box?
