I work for an IT consultancy firm and the reality is that even for us with significant in house capability it makes more sense for our "decent IT staff" to be engaged in doing something that actually advances the delivery of our business to our customers rather than maintaining a basic service like email.

I don't think they need to assume anything about all sites. It merely requires them to know that historically sites using those words have been bad enough that offering those words is not worth the trouble (in a financial sense), ie the risk is such that it outweighs the reward.

You might be disappointed that you can't prove otherwise for your specific case but the reality is Google makes it's money by doing things efficiently and automatically. It isn't their business to handle the 1% of requests that require human evaluation, it's their business to handle the 99% that can be automated.

Seriously though I suspect for most people 99% of their laptop usage involves taking it to and from home and work where they either have a power supply in both places or are reasonably comfortable that their battery will get them through whatever limited usage they may have at home. In between they want to be carrying as little as possible.

Given that blockquote is supposed to have line breaks before and after

Where is that specified? The fact you are talking about "line breaks" probably indicates you don't really know what you are talking about. Block level elements may well have either "padding" and/or "margin" but certainly do not have "line breaks" before and after them as part of their formatting.

except when within td tags, it is a very obvious bug

Quite the opposite I expect, it sounds like a concious decision. I think it's reasonable to decide that white space is at a premium within a table and that a default style that employs it more economically may make sense.

If Opera ignores legitimate style rules you specifically set then that is a bug. If their default rules are different then that is merely a choice.

Of course that choice could be a bad one worth changing, but for that to be true stronger reasoning than "it looks different than other browsers" is needed.

Can you quote the exact parts of any specs that lead you to believe this is an error.

Obviously the two renderings are different, but that doesn't necessarily imply that Opera (or Firefox) is incorrect. The HTML specification alone does not make many requirements on specific visual rendering, if you want specific visual rendering you need to also detail what CSS is being used. If Opera is not handling that CSS correctly then you have a bug, if it's default style rules are merely different from Firefox than that isn't really a bug.

If a specific amount of margin is really desired after an element then the author should specify it.

You can of course make the case that earnings are likely to increase, so that while the current earnings don't justify the current price the likely future earnings will. I agree that Apple have had some fairly consistant revenue growth however I do wonder how long that growth can be sustained. Growth doesn't magically continue because it happened last year and the substantial sort of growth that seems to be factored into the Apple price seems (to me) to require significant successful new products.

The iPod and iPhone have been radically successful but I'm not convinced Apple have other new business directions lined up to continue such growth.
