    dude, sunspots really DO affect computers, and can especially hit long distance wifi links. (just find a couple of ham radio operators to explain this for 'ya)

    I used to have an old crappy aiwa sound system, and if the cell phone was laying on top of it and would ring, it would reboot the player, sometimes even hard locking it so it would need the power cord pulled. (turning the phone one while it was on top also did it)

    Ahh, the ignorance of the OSS type mind!

    Everyone is free to do what they want, including broadcasting over someone on a popular frequency if you don't agree with their message. Should your local little broadcast station become too popular, one of your competitors mearly has to jam your signal out of existance. nothing you can do, no reprecussions, you just have to sit and take it.

    The concorde was EXTREMELY expensive to operate, so even if it was allowed to travel supersonic anywhere it wanted, it still would have failed. airlines are cutting every cost possible in an effort to undercut each other, so the concorde's death was just waiting to happen.

    maxtor diamondmax series 7200 rpm drives with fluid bearings. they are almost impossible to hear the spinning, head chatter is audible, barely. (I run one in my replaytv 5040, you can't hear the whine even with your ear pressed to the box!!)

    most vehicles have the airbag control system ENTIRELY seperate from the rest of the electronics. So much that airbags also have their own backup power supply.

    car stereo's are still a good target. MUCH higher dollar value (I compete for SQ with mine, around $5000 in total investement, but $10,000 is quite common), and no witnesses, assuming no one is around when it takes place.

    we USED to be consumers, that is the old model of thinking at least. The current trend is that once a industry has a stranglehold on the consumer, we become the enemy, the opponent, since no natural opponent no longer exists.

    think of all the current examples of the huge media conglomerates which are doing things to screw the consumer. what is stopping them... nothing. consumer backlash no longer means anything.

    In my home state of New South Wales, it is illegal to be carrying a knife without a reasonable excuse such as 'the lawful pursuit of the person's occupation'.

    Amazing how much we hear about the US trouncing civil liberties from people on that side of the pond, when they refuse to look around and realize they have NO rights left!!

    I can hear all the geeks screaming how ogg is the best thing on the planet. only problem is hardware support is almost nonexistent... Yeah, there are a couple of devices, but by and large most devices support one or maybe two formats. mp3 and wma. mp3 is here to stay!

    Many sites I have designed use referrer as the first line of security. you don't have it, the portions of the site won't work, period. take it or leave it, but I see no problem with internal referrers.

    umm, that has nothing to do with it. this jams ALL frequencies in the band, it just sends out massive amounts of spurious energy. also, basically every police department in the country uses trunked systems. (in case you didn't know, trunked means it hops around on different frequencies, sometimes as often as once a second or quicker.

    you are kidding, right? just got back from a 150+ person lan party, guess how many macs there were? yup, ZERO!!! no serious gamer even thinks of a mac, why, hmm, most of us don't want to wait 6 months to a year to get the game, and that is if it is even released! personally, i like mac and hope this situation would have changed, but look around at the popular online games now, desert combat/bf 1942, rise of nations, many others. (RON might be out on mac by now, but the point is the pc version has been out for a year...)

    I shouldn't have to make a broken website to support one broken web browser as long as the site looks 95% ok and is still useable.
    yeah, you are a web designer... yup.... that one broken browser is what 95% of your audience is using! so you are compromising 95% of your site to cater to 5% of your audience? besides, if you don't have a windows IE computer around and you claim to be a web designer, that doesn't go very far. yes, apache is the the most popular web server out there, but asp is hard to beat for dynamic sites. (I AM a web designer, and use basically all available web technologies. I currently am focusing on c# .net stuff using mysql db backends)

    That wouldn't solve the problem, HF interference doesn't exactly stop when it hits the border of a country, it is a worldwide problem.
