The Internet is just a collection of computers hooked together. Without interaction, "the Internet" doesn't do very much. Google is a tool because it searches the information on all of those computers for me. It performs work. No, it doesn't move atoms around like a hammer. But in the same way my browser is a tool, OpenOffice is a tool, and iChat is a tool, Google is a tool.
everybody knows lawyers sue on a contingency basis when the potential award is large enough
In the same way that everybody knows that there is no banker in Africa who randomly picked them out of a hat to receive $20 million from a deceased person they never heard of.
I know that the problem has been fixed in -current, but I run a production box that I refuse to bring up to -current. There's no patch or even a mention of this problem on the errata page.
I would like to help the proliferation of Free software, as part of a larger effort to provide opportunities to connect, to the people of Iraq. How can we help? Would my old computer hardware help? How can I get it to you? What about my linux skills? I teach computer science/forensics at the university level and would be happy to offer training over the web.
But what if somebody is expecting a call about a life-threatening situation? I don't begrudge any emergency room doctor from seeing a movie, but I want their phone to ring if they're needed back at the hospital to put me back together.
The part about "on penalty of perjury" refers to claim that the person sending the letter, usually a lawyer, represents the injured party. It has nothing to do with the contents of the letter. Check out 17 USC 1202 for the details.
you'll probably be working for a large firm that can afford forensics tools that cost tons of cash and do much more advanced forensics analysis than the forensics software for Linux.
If I'm working for a cash rich company, why can't I use the free toolkit and pocket the extra money set aside for "tools"?
I've given several conference presentations and briefings and seen a few changes in technology. Those changes, however, have not created anything new in the lecture hall, however. Those people who are going to pay attention to every word I say are still going to do so. Those people who drift off into their own world now can save the effort of daydreaming and surf the web/chat instead.
As for meaningful discussion via backchannels, I have yet to see it in action. The audience members would have to communicate beforehand to set up the channel, I suppose. Maybe if the somebody, to include the speaker, set up a chat room for everybody to join, you could get a useful quorum of people...
Now do you understand why we need Freenet?
1. Make neat looking computers/music players
2. (Previously ?????) Put them in cool colors
3. PROFIT!

Google is a tool, and tools can be used for good or for bad.

There is a reason why the 419 scam works.
Sadly, no. The spammers will just send you offers from fake law firms encouraging you to sue people selling you penis enlargement creams.
There IS a sucker born every minute.

What's a sane admin to do?

So in other words it wasn't a metric/inches conversion problem, but rather just using the old blueprints instead of the current one?
They would know what time you think it is!

Maybe you should try "The Simple Life" on FOX. I hear it has characters you can't empathise with.
Yes, but this one goes to eleven.

Sweet! The return of PointCast!
Too bad the link leads to a 404!
Will this show be visiting other cities? I can't get to Chicago right now, but would love to see this show.
Now now. Smoke some of these Altria cigarettes and you'll feel much better!
Trivial!

Or you can check out some of the improvements we've made to dd as part of dcfldd.
This isn't a worry in the United States. According to 17 USC 105, works of the US Government are not eligible for copyright protection.
Thus, all of the code written by government employees for government business, if released to the public, is public domain.
For example, check out my computer forensic tools: md5deep and foremost. Your tax dollars at work!
So this is like the Hacker Court at Black Hat last Wednesday?
