Step out from under that rock you've been living, and take a look at this cable I have here which connects my phone to my laptop for a wireless, high-speed connection. They've already got these for regular cell phones. Do you honestly think they are very far behind for 3G phones?

No, there are 100 channels total, 30 of which are commercial free. (Probably the same 30 that are broadcast on things like TimeWarner digital cable.)

The value that is added is that there are ONE HUNDRED CHANNELS in your car, as opposed to a few dozen (and out of those, probably 3-4 that you like).

I have a massive MP3 collection, and will eventually get something in my car to allow me to listen to my entire collection. However, there are times when I want to hear something different. I'd like to turn on the classical station, and have uninterrupted music that I don't get to hear very often.

Suppose that your bank had a flaw on their web page that let anyone find your credit card number. Would you say that they were not to blame if someone exploited that flaw and used your credit card?

Apples and Oranges. If you want to make it apples and apples, I would not blame my bank, but instead the software company that created their operating system, or the person or group of people that wrote their CGI scripts. After all, the bank just maintains the PC's, they don't write the software themselves, correct?

Not true. Microsoft made a patch available to those that knew about it. "Patched" would mean that they actively installed the patch.

Wrong. I did not say Microsoft patched ALL SERVERS. I said Microsoft patched THE FLAW. In other words, they wrote a patch that fixes the flaw. They posted this notice to their list (which anyone can subscribe to) that dispenses security notices. They posted this news on their website. And I'm sure they will increase notifications due to this latest threat.

You probably think the gun manufacturers should be sued because someone shoots someone with a gun, right?

Absolutely not true. The way you make the public aware of a product defect is to send registered owners mail (with a stamp -- not e-mail).

This would make ZERO DIFFERENCE. Why? Because the people that are the cause of this problem don't bother to register their software. How exactly could Microsoft reach these clueless morons?

If Microsoft can send you snail mail telling you that they want to sell you a new version of Visual C++, they can send you a CD-ROM with patches for severe security flaws in the OS that they sold to you.

First of all, I run many servers running IIS. I've probably only registered a handful of them. We buy the software not from Microsoft but from third parties. I very rarely receive mailed ads from Microsoft.

So you're of the opinion that the same people that receive ads from Microsoft are the same people running IIS on their machines and haven't patched it?

The problem here is joe-blow not keeping his machine secured.

Assuming you mean they won't allow port 80 traffic, you'll just see an increase in URL's like this:

The only way to really block web servers is to setup firewalls that can detect HTTP requests on any port, and block them. However, if they really went that far, they'd soon find themselves without a lot of customers. Obviously they need to go a different route.

Ummm, I'm guessing it's the title. The hijackers turned airplanes into "bullets with butterfly wings."

People, if you haven't, go read the list. Some of the songs on the list are certainly questionable and callous, but a lot of them are really good music that just happens to mention a word or two. The music itself and its message doesn't come anywhere near questionable, but it has a keyword in it...

Apparantly you don't understand the point of a list such as this. You seem to think this music has been banned from the radio for all time? Music on the radio is meant to be enjoyed. Most people, after the WTC events, would pick up on these "keywords" or themes and stop enjoying the music -- and possibly TURN THE CHANNEL.

It's called being sensitive. It's why HBO and the other movie channels have been running different movies in place of the scheduled "Passenger 57" and "Die Hard" reruns. It's why Hollywood has postponed or changed certain movies.

The person I was responding to implied that dealings with hijackers should continue on as they had in the past, because "90%" of hijackings end peacefully. Obviously this is ludicrous in wake of what has happened, because we must now assume that anyone hijacking a large vessel means to use it as a guided missile.

Once we institute rules to deal with these types of "suicide" situations, you will not see NON-suicidal hijackers take over large vessels, because they will realize it is pointless to do so. (Since we will now treat them as suicidal, and act accordingly.)

This means exactly what the original poster said -- seal of the pilots no matter what, perhaps give them a way to disable everyone outside the cockpit, etc.

Trust me, once non-suicidal hijackers realize that this is going to become the normal course of action, they will soon give up the hijacking of large vessels. What would be the point?
