Reminds me of a short story I read when young (11 or so) which described a society that had access to unlimited energy (from fusion) and thus unlimited production power. In order to maintain the economy everyone had to consume. Being higher up in the hierarchy ment less consumption. The main character was falling behind in his consumption quota so he ordered his robots to use the products instead. This he had to do in secret, until he was discovered and then praised for resolving the problem with the economy. Let the robots do the consumption of good.
Can't remember the name of the story anymore, which is sad, because it quite well describes where we might be heading.
I use Centericq (http://konst.org.ua/centericq/) which is runnin behind a screen on my home comp so it is accessible where ever there is a ssh connection.
So ask the consultant or whoever is spreading the buzz words what it means. I guess they'll be pretty silent afterwards if the can't come up with a good explanation.
No you've got to get two credit cards and two days. The first day you go to COMPUSA, Fry's is better, where you buy the hardware then take it back and set it up. The second day is spent grabbing some chicks and showing them what you did.
What is the definition of a good programmer? Someone who can write flawless code? Someone who can think up a solution fast? Someone who can look at the big picture and design the code and solutions to fit the big picture?
Bought an IBM laptop, came preinstalled with XP. Installed FC3 over it without ever loading up XP. Called Microsoft and asked if I could return the XP license that is at the bottom of the machine. The lady at customer support told me that they don't deal with issues like that, I should call the OEM. When I told that it sucks the nice lady told me to buy a laptop without any OS in case I wasn't going to use Windows. Right. So I called IBM. They told me that the license is for that particular machine only. If I want to return the license I would have to return the machine. Nice.
1. Article says 100 Mbps is 50 times faster than what they have now. Thus, they have 2 Mbps cable.
I have at home 512/512, my parents have 1/512. I've seen ads for 12Mbps and even 16Mbps. Do I need speeds like that? No. I'm usually on IRC, the surfing at low speeds is ok for me (if a site happens to load 5s faster it is no big deal for me). If I happen to actually download something big (like linux ISO files), I just start the download, put it in the background and do something else in between while it slowly comes down. What's the hurry?
My theory is that you had to be about ten at the time to think BG was actually cool. Once you're past the nostalgia, does it really stand up?
Why yes, I was ten. Yes, the show rocked. Now that I'm over 30. No, just another show. Same with Star Trek The Original Series. Go figure why I always waited for it to come on TV.
Skype works - always. SIP works - sometimes. Which one would you prefer?
Umm, no, Skype doesn't work all the time. I have friends (amazing yes), that I can call but they are unable to call me or I can't call them but they can call me. Afaik there should be no reason why it doesn't work.

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy but I found it juvenile at best. Good effects though.
Yeah, I remember when only the cool guys in the university had web pages...that was in 1994.
Some day slashdot comments are going to implode in a illogical paradox.

Just wait until that pesky alien probe comes to earth, then you'll be happy we saved some humpback whales.
The topic had me confused, why does he want to own his own IP address?
...energy source. Maybe he could power his computer?
If so, you fail at being a computer nerd! :)

How creepy is that going to sound?
"Hey baby, wanna see my RAID-5?"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... ...no seriously...
...somehow I feel that this wont work at all.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
For some reason I've read the headline as "AMD lubes ...". Must get eyes checked.

...why not use AMD instead? This must be a huge selling point for them in the future?

...of the server serving the pictures seems to have gone up in blazing fire. Anyone has a mirror?
FC3 installed ok on my laptop (IBM). Biggest issue seems to be to get WLAN to work (fedoraforum discussions).
Still not sure if I should try and break everything with FC4.
I am my own grandfather!
Hello Fry.
The technology could also be used on helicopters, frigates and destroyers.
When are we going to see frigates and destroyes landing on carriers?-)
