    i believe many security systems for homes and businesses have something like this. atleast ones that i use have.

    the idea is that if someone forces you to enter your code you can use the duress code and it sets off the silent alarm.

    yes, but there are also currents and tempurature differences that you can derive power from as well, so it isn't just the movement that is producing your energy. i guess i should have thought it through a little more before posting, but it is still possible to build it as i envisioned.

    there are no laws of thermodynamics that we have to break. the sea is a huge battery storing energy.

    also the lower you go the higher the pressure...you could potentially use pressure differences to help store power as well.

    if done right you might be able to design a sub that is purely mechanical, without any batteries, that works by winding a spring or something through moving up and down through pressure differences at different depths

    yes, but if you had access to one couldn't you use it to send your own encrypted message accross the network they create? then the jamming they do to your other signals won't really mean much. though the military would probably then intercept your own encrypted message.

    but a few sparse well placed messages cannot easily be unencrypted in a timely fashion to be useful to the party trying to decode it, especially if you continually change your encryption methods.

    (Plutonium-238 is very effective because it emits almost entirely alpha rays) but they are very expensive and their application are limitted (space probes, for example). They are not rechargable, though.

    the only reason the applications are limited is because
    1) plutonium is really expensive
    2) it is hard to get unless you are a government, or own a nuclear reactor.

    it isn't that plutonium decay powered devices can't be extended to other areas, the problem is that it is just so hard to get your hands on some plutonium. err...not that you would want to put your hands on plutonium...

    oh yeah, and don't forget
    3) ???
    4) profit

    there is a difference between limited use and limited supply, which is what we have in this case

    How freakin' accurate you want yer 8 bit computer to be?

    oh i don't know, but is it too much to ask for (9*9)/9 to equal 9?
    81/9 did, but (9*9)/9 didn't

    other than that i don't have any complaints as it was the apple ]['s that got me interested in programming.

    yes, but are these the same apple ][ computers that when you multiplied 7*7 and got 49.00001 as the answer?

    if i remember i believe 9*9 was the similar and gave you 81.00001

    and they were complaining about the 25th decimal point of the square root of 3 being off in the first batch of pentiums...

    isn't that how the US economy works?

    dollars used to be backed by gold, which were basically titles to some of the gold stored at fort knox or whereever else they had it.

    now the us only keeps a certain percentage of gold for every dollar in circulation and i think it keeps decreasing.

    now, assuming MS did use a salt like linux, whouldn't it be possible t change the random salt in the hash after everytime the user logs in. then if the hacker happened to come back, to check the new password hash they wouldn't necesarilly know whether the user changed their password, or if the salt just changed. which means now they need to crack both of the hashes because they don't know if it is a new password or not.

    now i know this only add some security through obscurity, but i would think every little bit helps.

    so does this mean someone committed a felony if someone gets infected with a virus and it starts emailing out copyrighted files without the users permission?

    sircam was one of my favorite file sharing programs. i never knew what i would get from random people on the internet...
