The Army may like meetings and PowerPoint too much, but at least everyone wore the same damn thing and swearing at each other was considered an art form.
I suppose I should specify my statement. It is important to shut up and listen to your subordinates and in turn give their statement voice. It doesn't intimidate me to manage people that are clearly more intelligent than me, and to promote their successes as their own (I never steal credit for someone's work or ideas). I also regularly fought higher authority and at times flat out told them their ideas were stupid.
I'm a prior Army Officer that has transitioned into the civilian workforce. The Army taught me many things, but the primary benefit was the amount of money the Army was willing to risk on me. Not many people can say that their first job out of college was managing 55 people and 8 million dollars in physical assets. Fortunately I did very well and had more command positions after with ever increasing responsibilities. I have what I consider to be an above average intelligence, but I'm certainly not anything special (certainly not genius level, I've met geniuses, I can't understand half of what to them is simple). I've faced combat and been under extreme pressure situations. I currently work in programming and find it moderately boring and frustrating with almost no correlation to my military service. Currently I'm working on getting back into some sort of operational role.
The point is, just because their military does not mean they will be uniquely gifted to do a job. The talent to shut up and listen I have found is what differentiates the good from the bad.
unfortunately no one really knows how to "fix" PTSD. Right now I'm going through some sort of immersion therapy where they ask me to describe the traumas in detail, with the goal being that I eventually get a little more callused to the events. Seems a lot like pushing someone off a cliff in the hopes that it helps them get over their fear of heights.
I would compare a dreaming machine more to a strong opioid than Advil. It doesn't fix a broken leg and it isn't a good long-term fix but it sure makes the nights a hell of a lot more bearable. Unfortunately it also makes abuse possible, but hell, what doesn't?
I was in Iraq during the surge in an area called "the triangle of death." I thought it was hyperbole until I got there. I'm still being treated for PTSD and I would love to try the dreaming machine. Can you throw in flying? I haven't flown in my dreams since I was a kid.
another problem, what happens if the wristband is taken off?
"I just died, or I took my wristband off, or the battery just died, or someone has hacked the device, in fact this watch has in general given you no additional information"

I hate it when he gets something new, I never understand what in the hell he's trying to do
I love video games of just about any genre. It's bullshit to say people won't ever be happy. I write plenty of reviews on Amazon good and bad. Lately game developers have been getting plain lazy. For example, Navy Seals SOCOM 3 came out, I snatched it up because I loved the second SOCOM. In SOCOM 2 the maps were pretty open and you had to really think about your plan you couldn't just run through blasting away and expect to survive.
I was furious at how ridiculous the third game was. The details aren't important but the developers essentially stripped everything out of the original version and replace it with crap. It didn't even have Navy Seals in the game...how the hell can you call it Navy SEALs SOCOM without any damn SEALs?
On the other hand I'm playing Dues Ex Human Revolution right now and loving every second of it. I consider it a good game because there are a ton of options, and you aren't punished for being creative.
While I'd be more interested from an end user and developer perspective, I like the idea of having a phone that will do both Android, WP7, and possibly even something like regular android, rooted android, (with multiple versions of android) and WP7 all at once.
While you're at it, can you throw in a flux capacitor as well?
Thanks for the info, although I'm not sure your math is flawless since the number of people infected has been decreasing since 2004. I think you aren't taking into account the fact that in sub-Saharan countries where the infection rate is highest, death occurs rapidly after infection thus decreasing the overall "pool".
Also I would love your input on your above quote "it splices itself into your DNA". As far as I know I don't have "DNA" my cells have DNA, a retrovirus infects the cell then splices into the DNA to replicate itself. If replication is not occurring wouldn't that retrovirus be considered gone? I know I'm missing something here and I have a feeling it has something to do with t-cells but I'm not sure.
It's only a matter of time before we are all infected.
When I was in the Army I got tested every year, still clean. Where in the world did you get the idea that it's only a matter of time? If you have a monogamous relationship with someone and don't stick random needles into yourself it's damn near impossible to get infected not "inevitable."
I tried doing some research on Magic Johnson to find out about his current status. From what I can tell, if he still has HIV, it is so minute that it is undetectable. It seems to be circular reasoning to say that HIV is incurable therefore since Magic was infected he still has it because it's incurable. Perhaps I don't understand the disease well enough, but if someone doesn't have a detectable instance of virus x can it still be said that he/she still has the virus x?
I'm not sure I really want the box to know my emotions. When playing MW3 I tend to say "that's bullshit!" when someone shoots me. Of course it isn't really bullshit, that person is actually better than me.
I love JBOSS with redhat. Using an MVC style development you can utilize JSP, Java, Rich Faces, and CSS. The best part...it's open source with a great community for support
Shouldn't the budget be considered illegal if it inherently guarantees to exceed the debt ceiling? Otherwise why in the hell even bother with a debt ceiling? One of the two (budget or ceiling) must be considered absolute.
Great points, I also am not holding my breath for any substantial changes. Republican or Democrat, neither party is interested in cutting spending in a meaningful way. In order to successfully implement decent spending cuts we must be willing to cut items that we have considered "essential." Collecting Social Security should be delayed by another ten years at a minimum. Cut education spending, by that I mean the amazing amount of administrators making six figure incomes not teaching positions. The best way to do this is to allow for school vouchers. Making the school system competitive will naturally cut much of the fat from the current establishment. Change the tax code to a flat tax, or the Fair tax and remove the myriad of exemptions and simplify the tax code. This would drastically reduce the number of "necessary" government officials needed currently to collect taxes. Defense must be cut drastically therefore our foreign policy needs to change as well. Ensure that Corporations don't interfere with current energy alternative development. Drastically cut welfare and unemployment programs. Finally make a constitutional amendment that requires a balanced budget. Essentially we will know that progress is being made when every political entity is screaming with rage about their pet programs being defunded. Make an actual plan that sets out to completely pay off our national debt within 30 years. After our debt is paid off imagine the amazing programs we could fund with the money we are currently spending to just pay the interest on the national debt! Universal health care and defense wouldn't be mutually exclusive. In short pain now is necessary if America wants to continue to be the most powerful economic force in the world.
What would this legislation look like? I agree that this is a massive problem. I have had some interesting ideas for items to develop but one of my primary concerns is that some patent troll company would simply sue me if my idea ever became profitable. The legislation would somehow have to tie the product with a company that has an actual production interest in the product. How would this be defined? If I obtain a patent on an item could I still be sued if someone else has a different patent that looks similar to mine?
you first, sell everything you own and let the poor live in your house. We'll see how much of a game money is then. Have you ever heard of the banana Republics? They made sure that money wasn't scarce, there were still poor people, just more of them
Mod up!!!! Nothing worse than an appeal to morality for moralities' sake. Either embrace the logical conclusion of your worldview, or abandon it for one that you can reasonably accept.

I suppose it depends on your boss, but I was not known as a "Yes Man" and I was always rated in the top 10 percent of my year group.

love your sig! I've doing my best by holding my breath in longer and longer intervals
Seriously!?!?! Why would retardpicnic's post be marked as a troll?!?!?! Is someone offended by his language? Grow up people he made a good point.
mod parent up! for the love of God!!!!

my pleasure! What does your signature mean?
Thanks for filling me in, I had always thought that it was the methane I was smelling after a good "dutch oven"
I'll bet that water was delicious!
I'd like a little H2O hold the methane please
