How many people ran the US following the revolution? Not even everyone had franchise back then. Hell, a large segment of the population didn't even count as legal persons.
Nothing you do will ever stop there from being powerful leaders who control most of the power. Being a majority is meaningless, because someone will simply rise to control that majority again.
Much like any other religion, populism never does anything meaningful, but that never stops "The People" from believing in it.
My assumption has always been that photons travel at c no matter the "medium" because there isn't really a "medium" per se, just collisions with things that occupy space.
I'm just a dreamer, though. I know nothing of physics.
Dammit, why do powerful people always have power? I want magic land were power goes to the disaffect lazy whiners who want everything handed to them for no effort.
If history has taught me anything, it's this: when Slashdot nerds are hostile towards a technology for reasons that boil down to "it's change, and I hate change" then it's probably going to be a winner.

Since this "99%" is demanding that "the 1%" take care of them, I'm pretty sure you've hit the nail on the head.

Wow, this kid has fanboys already?
LOL oh Slashdot, never change, never change...
"Rich people should pay to entertain me" is possibly the single greatest populist cause in history! Demand those circuses!
so the adult approach is to whine that you deserve Internet for free? oh slashdot I love you so...
No, you're just one of the few.
There is always the curmudgeonly luddite set who thinks it's cool to talk about how they hate everything new. Congrats! That's you this time.
Yeah, stand up to the man for your right to fuck with people and be entertained without personally earning it. That's compelling as fuck.
Boo hoo. If they want to play with the big boys, they can pony up enough cash to pretend they belong.

Small correction for you - The world doesn't even care that it's open.
Well it's only been a few thousand years now, but I bet back in prehistoric times, politicians were fucking awesome.
Dammit, why do powerful people always have power? I want magic land were power goes to the disaffect lazy whiners who want everything handed to them for no effort.
Apparently it also encourages nerds to whine about people being social...
I gotta say, that's the effect I find most annoying.
We only elect the chief executive and what is essentially a bloated board of directors. Everyone else is appointed or simply hired.

Don't let your lack of any sort of understanding of reality prevent you from spewing your populist garbage on everything.
I know! I know! Unskilled line-workers are what really drives the economy. We need to get back to good old 19th century thinking.
Ahhh, the rare entitled Slashdot twat...
And you whiners will whine about it. It's the circle of life, man.
This is Slashdot. Copyright is immoral because it abridges the right to free entertainment. Get with the program.
It wasn't personal. I should have clarified.
Oh, well let's keep inefficiency around because it makes people feel better. We should legislate it as a requirement.
Opinions are like assholes, and so are you.
I much prefer the idea of taking from the rich to to bail out those who borrowed to the hilt and lived like there is no tomorrow.
I DESERVE MY NANNY!
